Experience the World of Buddhist Monks

Not many people get the opportunity to experience and interact with Buddhist monks on a regular basis so I wanted to make this video to give you all a small glimpse into "our world". The activity that the Buddhist monks in Thailand are doing is called "Pintabata" or alms round. This video was created out of sheer gratitude and respect to all the past, present and future monks who have made and will continue to make the sacrifice to train oneself to help strengthen the faith of Buddhist and Buddhism around the world. This monk life is simple but NOT easy. May I rejoice in all your merits. For those who would like to come to Thailand to become a monk and live like a monk, the experience is priceless. My eyes are filled with tears after watching this peaceful video. It actually reminded me of my monk days period and we had to go Alms offering in a village in Korach. The devotees there did not wear fancy clothes or had well structured houses, but they were willing to give whatever they could. It is just a beautiful way of practicing the art of giving. I am 73 & a hindu from india. My life turned 180 degrees after Buddha & Buddhism came into my life in 1997, just about when my life was oscillating between certain death & survival. Till then, i was practicing hindu spiritually. I found all the reasons for my troubled life of 47 years in buddhist scriptures- courtesy Buddhist Sangha, Taiwan. They were kind enough to send them. I had read most of them. Today, i am a buddhist mentally & an ardent devotee of Buddha. There is no change in life prior to or after that. Troubles & difficulties are still mounting as per Buddha's 4 noble truths of life. Yet, Buddha has made me understand that there is no ocean without waves & no life without difficulties. I have now learned to walk on 8 fold path of Buddha. I am a hindu only on record. I have been practicing buddhism at my heart for the last 25+ years. I am at peace among troubles. Buddha made me accept life as it comes & do good. Hope to be born in thailand, in the next life. And offer alms to venerable monks.

Comes to mind: How one needs to learn to have gratitude for life and not take things for granted. I literally just decided to drive around ... I suppose "led by spirit" .... anyway I suddenly see 25 buddhist monks walking peacefully and joyfully along the side of the road here where I live. I had to stop and the most joyous smile came to my face. Some of the monks somehow noticed me as I was sitting in my car and they waved and smiled with me, as I waved and smiled back .... I think I just experienced another rare "divine appointment" I was meant to have. So beautiful and unexpected and so very NEEDED for my soul to feel peace

Wow! What a beautifully made video that captures an integral part of a monk's life in Thailand and shows the true spirit of giving. Great choice of music :-) I am learning so much from your videos Nick, and enjoying the insight into your chosen path. There is a Buddhist monastery in the area where I live in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia, but it has been only a very rare occasion where I have seen a monk in the closest town. I have no real idea what they do or what involvement they have in our community.

Great question. One of the rules established in our rules is that we are not allowed to plant our own food or cook our own food. This creates an environment where we have a symbiotic relationship with the lay community 😊
