Your channel showed up in my feed by "accident." Here's what pops into my mind after having watched 3 of your videos. Based on what I've learned, I deduct that your monthly income is about twice of what you are spending, so not only don't you have to touch your nest egg, but it grows continuously. Good for you! Are you planing on buying a house in Mexico in the future? Future videos of you should include how you learned Spanish, why you chose PV, perhaps a more detailed view into your finances, the process of Canje itself, how you got your stuff to Mexico, and what you do day in, day out. My wife (62) and I (66) are gearing up for retirement to Mexico; got our visas in Las Vegas earlier this year and did Canje in GDL a few weeks ago. We are now official residents! I have a Swedish, German, and a US passport, so I have quite a few options, but we chose Mexico for several reasons. Starting in January, we'll get our overpriced SoCal home in the best possible shape so that we can sell it at the best time, March/April/May for as much money as possible. Once escrow closes and the money is in the bank, we'll put our two dogs into our to-be-purchased "Mexico car," most likely either a Honda Odyssee or a Honda Pilot -- something dependable that blends in -- and head down to Mexico. We plan on exploring various locations for several months, before we'll return to the one we like best. We've been to SMA (loved it, but expensive and far from the nearest airport) and the Lake Chapala area (nice view, but also expensive and a bit grungy), so we'll see where we'll end up. Once settled, we'll look for a home to buy and will purchase a Mexican plated car. Thereafter we'll return our California plated one to the States and sell it, while figuring out how to get our "stuff" (what's left of it) from the storage in California down to Mexico. Interestingly, every single time we've been to Mexico, I had food related illness. Last time, my wife had the same, and we're super careful with the water and even wash our vegetables (we are vegetarians) with that special stuff that you pour into the water. I wonder what's in the Mexican food that causes that. Perhaps also a good idea for a future video? Best of luck to you. I subscribed, so we'll talk again.

Hola, thanks for watching and subscribing! We both enjoyed reading your well-thought out comments. (Not that others are not well-thought out, hahaha). But yours has a lot to digest. It's interesting that your plans are similar to ours as we sold our house and instead of moving here right away, we traveled in an RV to see the USA for 4 years. So, we had downsized quite a bit and did not have a storage unit or anything that didn't fit into our small rv. One thing I would ask you, is do you both have permanent residency here in Mexico? I thought that you can't drive a US plated car into Mexico as a permanent resident. I'm sure you have looked into that. We also traveled around Mexico over the past 2 years and visited SMA and Ajijic/Chapala as well. We stayed in Mexico City, Querétaro, Guanajuato, and Puebla and visited several of the smaller towns along the way. We keep coming back to Puerto Vallarta...which, like you said, would be a good topic for a video. We've also had stomach issues all over Mexico. Mostly only when we eat out. We are very careful about the water and washing vegetables at home. Pepto Bismal and Tums are our friend. The farmacias sell a lot of electrolyte drinks so maybe it's not just us! We'll be interested in following your journey, too. Keep in touch!

@@RetiredLifeMexico . . . thank you both kindly for your quick and detailed response! Our SS retirement benefits are much smaller than yours, but we would have qualified for RP based on our assets, namely the money we have in our E*Trade retirement accounts. We purposely chose RT over RP because we want to travel through Mexico the "first year" (or most of it) in our own car to explore the country and find our favorite spot to settle down. While we will sell as much as we can (house, 2 cars, 1 truck, 1 motorcycle, a business! -- don't even want to think about it), we will have some "stuff" left that goes into a small storage somewhere, most likely in California, to be brought down to Mexico God-knows-how later one. We also have two small dogs, and it's just more practical for us to travel to Mexico in a vehicle than flying there. So that's our reasoning for choosing RT over RP. In the end, it's 2 more visits to the INM and a bit more money, but we weighed the advantages with the disadvantages and this how we ended up with Residente Temporal. I've lived in 6 European countries before immigrating to the US in 1986. Initially I lived in Florida before moving to SoCal in 1991; my wife has lived in California all her life. We now live near Ojai, about 5 miles inland of Ventura, and I don't think I've been to the beach more than a handful of times in the past 30+ years. We don't like extreme heat nor extreme cold, which is why we probably end up in Central Mexico and not in PV or the Rivera Maya. We want to travel every year from our Mexican home base and we surely will spend time at the beach, in the winter, but as far as summers go, it's not for us. I'm looking forward to more videos from you!

I like all these details. I go to a very good dentist in Tijuana. Super easy & affordable and I just walk back over border.

Enjoyed the video! Question, is there anything you can take, preventative, to help guard against stomach issues that one can get while in Mexico? Looking forward to the next video!

We make sure to wash the veggies in an iodine solution but as for eating tacos on the street...not a lot on the preventative side of things. The CDC does recommend NOT taking antibiotics for prevention. Use hand sanitizer, and/or alcohol. Bring pepto-bismal even though it is available here in the pharmacies. Try to eat where a lot of locals and tourists eat since they probably have the best hygiene practices. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Curios if it is Brigette that does the" end of life" seminars in PV? I know how wonderful the health care is in Mexico so I would always pay out of pocket, but if push came to shove and I needed to get back to the US, flights are so inexpensive that is not a problem, but I totally trust the Doctor, Nurses and Medical Expertise of Mexico.......They are Wonderful. Also by the way if you ever need foot care, I highly recommend the Clinic which is on the second floor of the CMQ in Puerto Vallarta they are excellent, and I think the treatment was maybe 18 bucks or less. Thanks again for another helpful Video! Tomas

Hola, it's Pam who does the seminars. Michael will be needing some foot care soon. Which CMQ are you referencing? Thanks in advance for the information. We agree, the health care here is top notch.

Hola! When people discuss health care and the access to it many say "Oh, for anything major or if I get in an accident I'll just fly back to the US." You have to be stable enough for any medical professional to recommend or even give you an approval to fly back. For smaller medical needs that you may be thinking you'll fly back for you would have to take into account the costs incurred with the flights, accommodations and meals along transportation needs. Buena suerte con eso...

Yes, you are exactly right. Lots to have contingencies for.
