Was let go from a new company in my state. 100% interested in learning peddinghaus machine & welding Promoted me to machine operator. 1 week after that a supervisor that had it out for me made up a lie said he told me to come in for overtime on a Saturday-volunteering-was not. Mandatory. I asked but he told me there was no need for a machine operator to come in but he will look into it.. this was on a Thursday. Friday he called off. Monday I came in him & 2 supervisors called me into the office & fired me cause of this

Worst part about UA pipefitting is when work dries up in your area and you have to leave your wife and child to travel across the country.. yeah.. the pay is great but I just cant do that

Unions pay according to prevailing wage. there's a lot of factors that go into that, beyond my scope of understanding. At any rate, if you're making over what the Local can get you, then good for you. Keep in mind, that if you're on the top of your game, nothing says that you Have to make only scale, I know a few that have been able to negotiate a better rate. UA469 5th yr Fitter Apprentice

Its split in jurisdictions. Some pay 30.00 some pay 50.00. Some pay 12.00 an hour towards you pension others 6.00. Call a union in your area and find out. Its not just whats on your check, a pension is for when you're done after 25 years.

Todd Ransom hey Todd I have a friend who is in the union in Toronto as well doing the pipeline. I'm taking welding in school and he says I should pay and join as well. I'd like to know if this is a good move and if I'd be given the opportunity to get on the force if I do so.

100 % . You can join any UA local. it doesn't always have to be Toronto. I've been a member of that local for a long time and its been good to me.

The problem with unions is that they teach you way too slowly. I can learn faster and work harder than 90% of the people who started in the trade at the same time as me. I have less than a year experience with an industrial pipe contractor and they are already talking about giving me journeyman pay soon

+Austin “hunterdude54321” Davis The reason I said he is wrong for saying that to you is there are many excellent non Union tradesmen, I started in 1980 non Union, Joined the Union in 1988 and have been since, so to respond saying dip shit right off the bat is sure not giving the Union a good outlook on how they view others in the non union sector that want to join or take the better step of a highly skilled and highly paid tradesman. " just a thought, next time you spout off like that" because in a real Union we stand shoulder to shoulder

insurance my ass. when your a union pipe fitter you need to travel a lot for work. you pay for insurance but you never have it because of the way its done. employer has I believe 30 days to send money into your local so even when you have hours in for insurance to be active it isn't till the end of the month when you receive a cobra letter telling you you had insurance the previous month . it never catches up to you. a lot of money disappears. And know body wants to change anything. Its like anything else money corrupts. Started out representing the worker ended up lining the pockets of the uppers. Vegas trips, vacation money never received, dues go up wages don't, sit out of work while their buddies jump list and get work, shitty tools because hands don't have to buy them. Don't get me wrong there are some great people in the unions but the higher ups have abused the whole agenda. They want you to vote straight Democrats that means Hillary. No Way Jose! Trump 2016
You aren't in the union, so why do you think you know absolutely ANYTHING about the ins and outs about the way things work? Just because you heard a union guy complaining about being laid off for being a lazy piece of shit and making a bad name for himself so now nobody wants to hire him? Good thing you aren't in dude, cuz we don't want ya. I'll take all the benefits being union has to offer especially getting paid twice your scale. Smarten up man.
@jeremiahjeremiah13197 жыл бұрын
Hunter Benedict well said brother. I'm taking welding in school in Canada. plan is to be out west next year and or join the union in Toronto. I have a few friends in it. Is it likely I'll be given the opportunity to get a good gig lined up? I've been told you Can pay 700 bucks to join the union hear.

Hey all you experienced fitters. I'm a fitter too , and I have an invention to keep your work area clean around your power machine. Check it out on youtube, it's called the 'curly catcher' , and it does just that. It catches all the oil and curly's that fly off the threads.

Do they give you a pension? We don't pay contractors that's not how it works. We pay our dues to the hall. They find me work, I work when I want. I did both and almost all people prefer the union if they've done both. Me included. I should have joined sooner.
