"You are a student and you are there to learn." This statement has truly helped to free me from imposter syndrome. And even when you are an "expert" in your field you still have to avail yourself to learning (i.e., lifelong learner). Tfs

100% I love that! I'm definitely a lifelong learner! I learn something new every week!

I started watching your videos three semesters ago, and I think this notion of the imposter syndrome was probably my first video too! We have finally circled back! I would say, don't overthink it! Yes it is hard, but you won't have been accepted into the programme if you were not qualified for it in the first place. Everyone is there to learn, and everyone brings in different perspectives and experiences, which is a really rich vault of resources for everyone to tap into! My classmates are people in higher management in their workplaces, and after working with them, really, they are just humans doing their best. So, take a deep breath and as said, you are a student and you are there to learn!

Thank you Toyin! I'm 54 and attending Harvard graduate school. I still have those pesky imposter syndrome thoughts.

I first experienced impostor syndrome during my masters because I hadn't been in the classroom in 3 years and I felt so behind compared to my classmates who went straight to grad after undergrad. Now I'm experiencing it again because I've been accepted into 5 of the 6 PhD programs I applied to (might make a KZbin video about it) which is still hard for me to accept. Additionally, everyone is telling me how great a candidate I am and they're really putting in the effort to convince to go their respective school. It's definitely a good problem to have but I didn't know it was possible to be overwhelmed with good news lol but I am trying to get over my imposter syndrome and just accept that I put in a lot of work and effort into my application (with the help of mentoring professors of course) and that I've done things that your typical applicant in my field hasn't and that helped me stand out. Thanks so much for another great video!

Thanks so much for sharing that perspective! We can feel imposter syndrome even when things are going great! Congratulations on being accepted to 5 programs! That's awesome! My recommendation would be to choose the school that is the best fit for YOU!

@@theacademicsociety Thank you so much!! Everyone keeps telling me to base in on what's a good fit for me and I think soon I will come to a decision!

i feel this way now, i am about to get my BA degree and don't believe in myself to be able to handle grad school

What about your habits and learning style make you believe that you won't be able to handle grad school? I think that identifying those first would be a great start! That way you'll know what to focus on first.

Awesome feedback for Grad students. Imposter syndrome is real, especially when you haven't been in a classroom for 10 or longer years. I confronted this during the first quarter of grad school, but we over come gradually as you become familiar with your peers, who once you engage in conversation with, experience the same sense of emotion, another tool that helps is understanding that you and your peers have a common purpose to achieve.
