Its tail heavy. Remove the landing gear to get your wing loading down a little. Move the CG back a little. Remember you can still fly if your nose heavy, too tail heavy forgetaboutit..... Also, remember with a big prop your going to get a lot of torque roll when you give it the juice so try and feed power a little more smoothly and you wont spin out so easy. And I know its supposed to be 3 d, but until you get a feel for it, maybe reduce the throws on your controls a little. The design looks ok. If it looks right, it should fly right.... Try some no power test glides until you get a nice stable glide. Shouldnt dive at the ground and shouldnt nose up and then porpoise either..... Goodluck....

where did you set the CG? the length of the tail boom and the way it seemed to wallow around when it did get airborne suggests it's probably tail heavy. general rule for CG is 1/3 of the width of the wing back from the leading edge. if you support it on your fingertips at this point, it should balance front to back.
@sane_scientist7 жыл бұрын
The CG was exactly on the carbon spar in the wing. The plane was actually a tad nose heavy and it pitched up like that as I was giving it full up elevator in an attempt to gain altitude.

I think the plane is too heavy and did not have a proper airfoil mechanism or maybe the prop length is smaller.Anyway,i recommend you to use coreless motor setup if you plan to make a small plane like that.Or,you may construct a large plane,for which the brushless motor setup is meant to be.CHEERS!

think if you added a stepfoil at the leading edge and some winglets should fly nice and make sure it glides good and stable before flying with the motor might be roll torque from the motor making it fly bad if you have your thrust line on the center of mass it will do this could do 2 motor that counter rotate to cancel roll torque and add thrust differential for yaw I'm gonna try and make this a design some winglets for you there was a naval airplane that when the wing stalled the left wing would stall first applying power would roll it farther to the left losing control you had to put the nose down roll right and gently apply power they eventually fixed it putting a device on that would cause the wings to stall at the same time with the ccw prop you want the thrust line down to the left so it Flys with the left side left wing leading because the torque will roll it to the left

wing needs more lift..it is highly unstable due to the huge lack of an airfoil.. the little divot you have in the leading edge is basically a spoiler.....the motor and air frame will fly with a better airfoil...for everyone saying CG is off is dead wrong.. there is 0 lift coming from the wing..
@volkerracho72577 жыл бұрын
u need an airfoil or a much bigger wing. try to camber your flat sheet wings by using tape or mount your ailerons to a 10 degree flaps position. or build a armin wing / flite test style simple airfoil. Dont use hot glue on micro builds in general. it is too heavy. better use superglue or contact glue for foam/depron to save weight. if u want a micro to perform very good build it as lightweight as possible! 3d printed parts are nice but also add a lot of weight. Just improve the airfoil and try to fly without the canape and the wheels! Nice skill on cad/printe and building!

thanks for posting. nice work. some thoughts...suggest you try an electric prop. maybe a 5 x 5. the carbon spar is overkill and adds weight, where it effects the center of mass. you might try adding a little ballast, as low as possible, at the cg. cheers

Go to your local butcher. Ask for some of those big strong trays they put large heavy cuts of meat on. Get the largest ones they have. The ones I've been getting steaks on is incredibly strong and light. Some of the trays are yellow. These seem to be strongest. Since they don't sell trays without meat on them, they usually just give them to you. Then, go build a strong, but lighter plane.

thanks for posting. nice work. some late thoughts. paper-clad foamboard is too heavy for smaller models; say, anything under 48 inches ws. i know, i have tried. a low-lift wing has been used here, which would be fine if the plane was not so heavy. note that any part of the plane, aft of the cg, should be as light as possible; including the fuselage. carbon may have been used for the main spar. at this scale, bamboo can be used; it weighs less than carbon. did you ever weight it. generally, 100 watts of power is necessary, to keep sixteen ounces aloft. you can do the math, if you like. it looks as though a 'flexy'-type prop has been used. if an airplane is not a slow-flyer (s-f), then a stiff, apc electric prop or equivalent should be used. cheers
@greg00637 жыл бұрын
Great build but I think Volker is right you need more wing area. You might need a bigger wing for lighter wing loading. I'm going to guess you are too heavy. It is reacting like some of my planes that I could never get right. It seems only to fly when going fast, it will not slow down and retain control. Not sure of the components you have but here is a little estimated guide. 100-150g about 18-20 inch wingspan, or 250g about 24inch wingspan or more for, these are rough estimates. You don't have to have an airfoil. It could be a flat plate and work great. Look at most any small 3d epp model. If you wanted an easy airfoil to build is a KF2 airfoil. All it is is another piece of foam doubled on top of the wing but only the leading half and only up to 50 percent of the chord forming a step. Again this is optional, but they do add rigidity and give a gently stall. Also balance it 30% of the wing chord measured from the leading edge as a starting point. Best of luck!

When I was 16 years old I designed a small scale (hand push) and it was without any power except the air pressure and it was flying for about 11 : 15 second free flight and landing so good.. It's nice try for you but better to work with the physical laws which identify the good percentage between the weight and the power and the palance and the value of the wings and the fan and if you need any information about it I can help... Your small model is looks like a plan but it built without using all of this physical laws and also you have to put in your account to make the wheels to keep the fan far away from the ground as possible to not lose it like what happened. .. Good luck for the next try and I wish you can do it.

think its you wings ,easiest way to go is try taping different lengths of foam to the wings ,and glide tests it until you get optimum length , if you do add any more to the wing ,you could try the gull wing tip or polyhedral , instead of just a straight wing,. keep trying

mmm.. the error was. leave the engine in the same line of the wings. you should, leave the wings with the opposite edge slightly above the engine with some angle of attack ,. so when advancing the motor would force the wings to rise .. another point is. Missing a little angle in the wings. To prevent the two wings from losing at the same time

votre aile n'a pas de profil , c'est pour cela que votre avion ne vole pas . vérifier votre centre de gravité et que votre avion ne soit pas trop lourd. your wing has no profile, that's why your plane doesn't fly. check your center of gravity and that your plane is not too heavy.

With there being no camber in your wing u r missing out on Bernouli's lift (creating pressure gradient) which actual aircraft that u r copying capitalizes on - although no big issue then u have to fully capitalize on Newtonian lift:(pushing air down) ie u got to fly in high Alpha-which u can accomplish by giving main wing 10 deg upward angle wrt plane keeping horizontal stabilizer level

the sane scientist aha my friend its nose heavy give it more weight in the back and if that does not work make bigger wings for more lift also if it were to fly it looks to me like I would need to go fast and seems under powered.So in all put weight in back makes wings bigger a piece of foam glued to the ends will do and maybe get a higher discharge battery and if you rebuild try not to 3D print as much for I seemed to me as if it was heavy!!!!!!thanks so much for uploading and I hope this helps please check out my channel and I can't wait for part two!!!!!!!!!!

A little airplane that size should not weight more than 2 ounces (60 grams) ready to fly with battery. For that kind of wing area you need radio gear about 1/4 - 1/2 of weight as what you are using. Your servos for that airplane shouldn't be more than 2 grams a piece, receiver 2 grams or less, speed controller 4 grams or less and battery about a 2 cell 200mAh or less. I would go with even lighter radio gear like Horizon Hobby"s UMX 1 cell 150 mAh BRUSHED motor set ups or their UMX 2 cell 200 mAh BRUSHLESS motor set ups. For the wing and tail 2 mm foam thickness would help it fly a lot better as the foam thickness you are using looks to be about 6-8 mm and that is too much drag and excess weight. Also for small airframes like that always oversize tail area (larger tail scale to wing area) with more tail to wing moment (fuselage same length as wing span good rule) as this has proven a common requirement for good stability compared to bigger R/C airplanes can be more scale in size.
