So I googled what's in Coke, and here's a list of the INGREDIENTS: Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Natural Flavors, Caffeine. I'm no scientist, but do you think it's the Phosphoric Acid that makes the chemical reaction? I found this video to be very interesting. It's amazing to me how people come up with these experiments and why they do them. Interesting indeed!

The acid, in this case phosphoric acid, starts breaking down CaCl(OCl), which is naturally in the Calcium hypochlorite, as the Ca(OCl)₂ is broken down over time through light, releasing oxygen in the process [2Ca(OCl)₂ -> 2CaCl(OCl) + O₂]. As the CaCl(OCl) is broken down, it releases Chlorine gas: H₃PO₄ + CaCl(OCl) -> HCaPO₄ + H₂O + Cl₂, this is exothermic. This chlorine gas dissolves again into the water in the coke, producing (hypochloric acid) HOCl and (hydrochloric acid) HCl. The HCl starts attacking the Ca(OCl)₂, making CaCl(OCl) and hypochloric acid again [Ca(OCl)₂ + HCl -> CaCl(OCl) + HOCl], whose CaCl(OCl) is again attacked by the phosphoric acid, etc. The hypochloric acid is broken down thx to the heat generated into hydrochloric acid and oxgen gas [2HOCl -> 2HCl + O₂], the hydrochloric acid further attacking the calcium hypochlorite. Because the reaction starts off with only few CaCl(OCl) molecules and produces more and more, the reaction is slow at first and as it generates more and more CaCl[OCl] and heat it speeds up. The gasses produced are Chlorine and Oxygen.

+Babuco The Bacca It is literally boiling. That is why it bursts out of the glass - the heat from the reaction going on here (presumably a redox reaction between the highly concentrated chlorine and various organic compounds in the soda) causes the soda to boil from the bottom up, and the resulting bubbles push it out of the glass.

Mentos + cola = a chemical reaction.
@managMent_6 жыл бұрын
@@jonavanderpal I can see where OP is coming from... Mentos and Cola is not reacting chemically, but the large surface area of Mentos is releasing a lot of the CO2 which is dissolved in the water as carbonic acid. In this reaction however, the Chlorine is reacting. I suspect with Phosphotic Acid and Carbonic Acid to create Hydrochloric Acid, which expands as a gas and creates all these bubbles while doing so. Im no expert tho, might be wrong on that.
