Oh, man. After having moved to the Chicago metro region, I know some natives that would have a stroke telling you all the things that make that not quite a Chicago dog. Seriously, there are so many fecking rules: - Chicago dogs MUST be all beef, preferably by the Vienna Beef company. - Tomatoes MUST be cut into wedges. - Relish MUST be weird iridescent mutant green sweet relish. - Peppers MUST be "sport peppers." Using pepperoncini is subject to fine. - Bun MUST have poppy seeds. - Whole thing MUST be topped in celery salt. - Uncooked white onions MUST be finely chopped. - Pickles MUST be quartered dill spears. - (The yellow mustard is fine... but it MUST be yellow mustard!) - Hot dog MUST be assembled in the proper order. Add to bun: dog, mustard, relish, onion, tomato, dill spear, sport peppers, and celery salt in that order. - If there's any ketchup in the same building, you have to throw the whole thing out and start over. Any deviation is subject to polite passive aggressive midwestern disdain of your existence.
