Hello! This playlist focuses on water in lye solutions, specifically how much you need for the perfect batch of soap. This video is a soapy science test surrounding how much water is TOO much in a soap recipe, as well as how to increase or decrease your cure time. That is science, and anyone who continues to say otherwise at this point is just wrong. We have the ability to measure this; stop spreading misinformation.

Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Great. The same conclussionsI've reached from practice clearly exposed here. Iuse around 30-33%, depending on what I add to them, but the ash is bigger when I use more water. I have to be very, very careful with it, and covering them very well and all that jazz. Thanks again for another useful video and your channel

Personally, I’m most comfortable with a 2.5:1 but that’s just me. I think everyone has a different comfort level. I’ve never understood the crazy ridged thought processes. There’s flexibility in soap making.

Superfat percentage should be adjusted in relation to water content?
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay Жыл бұрын
Not really - what gets adjusted when factoring superfat is the lye. The water has no meaningful relation to the amount of oils.

I do all my soaps with a water discount of 47%. I love doing it that way and I’ve never ever had a problem. My batch accelerated 2 times in 6 years because of the fragrance oil n I knew that was going to happen. My ph is always on the money n mine “cure” is only 3 week’s. I’ve never had a volcano my soap has never over heated. I don’t put mine in the oven I don’t do towels or heating pads cause I think that’s dangerous n can start a fire. I just let it sit out uncovered on my counter. I think I don’t have a thickening problem because I master batch my oils n butters and I can’t be around lye fumes so I freeze my water or coffee ( which ever liquid I’m going to use for my water portion) and I add the lye and I let it sit out. I grab my master batches oils n butters n I hit it w the stick blender n then I add my lye when it’s ready. My house is always about 60-65° n that can be why it stays so fluid. I’ve had to wait about an hr. to get to piping consistency. My bubbles bubble up immediately and it’s a gorgeous thick creamy lather n I love it. I like to do a big discount because I add purées n coconut milk or goats milk and I don’t have to worry. To each there own right. However I’ve never ever had soda ash or any of that. Probably sue to the discount.

Thanks for the info…cause I am tired of deleting soaping communities because the soap hags get after me for saying things I’ve learned from the experts…mostly YOU, cause they are the ones who don’t think knowledge should change old habits!!!
