Experiment: Let's Setup a 10 meter Radio Antenna! w/ sirio 2016 antenna

Got the same antenna 8m off the ground. Had amazing reports and result working 20m with a ATU. As a quarter wave vertical.. I live 140 km South of Bangkok,Thailand. 5/9 into Florida, British Columbia, Finland , and Belgium.. Quality antenna at the price point.. 73's HS0ZOU..

Howdy. I'm researching base antennas at this time and came across the Sirio 2016. I currently have an A-99. 3 things 1. How has this bad boy held up for 6 years? 2. Are you happy with its performance? 3. Would you choose this antenna again if you were in the market, or would you look elsewhere? Thanks and 73!

I have the Sirio 2020. Always thought it was a 2016 but then i bothered to count the radials and discovered it's a rarer version but basically identical. How long are the radials on the 2016? My radials are 71cm or close to 28 inches. What swr did you manage? Mine is just above a metal roof which caused a strange impedance. I watched it with coax lengths to a swr of 1:1 but really it needs matching at the antenna. I'm guessing it is due to the metal roof below so i need to go higher or add a different type of match such as unun or capacitor tune at the feedpoint. Mine tuned to 28 with no end stub but that was before i tuned to coax to help with the reflected rf. I might add a stub if i can work out how long and where to place it.

I get 1.0 swr on transmit (but i did tune the tip for the frequency). I have no regrets with it... Ive just ordered mine, should be here 9th May 2022. Just a quick question though....how do you adjust the swr, especially when its been put up....? Regards Nigel.

There is a lot of up and down! You adjust the last element with the round hat ontop. it's a 5mm aluminium rod. SWR can change a great deal depending on height and proximity to other objects so the main goal is to try to find the best position for the antenna and then go from there. If you can't get the SWR below 1.3 then it's probably a proximity issue or it could be that you got lucky with a coax length but that means the coax will be working as part of the antenna. You can check this by experimenting with different coax lengths to see if your swr readings change. Tuning by changing coax lengths is not ideal but it will save your radio. The more you mess around with antenna and swr the more you will notice how important the final mounting position can be. An antenna analyser (analyzer) or VNA can show you the impedance at the feed point which is always a good starting point, once you have the correct impedance then work on swr and then try with the coax to see if anything changed then fine tune for the middle of your band.

I have a sirio 2020 (basically identical but with 4 more 71cm radials) that must be around 25 years old at a guess. I bought it from an old guy and renovated it. It had a bit of a bend in the main boom and i remade a new connection from the pl259 to the coil, (some powerful soldering equipment is needed) It has survived pretty well, no more bends. I did drop it by mistake once from about 20ft while dropping the pole, some minor bend in the main element which i fixed and bent 4 radials which i carefully bent back with no kinking.

at the time i used the Channel Master Telescoping Antenna Mast Galvanized Steel Pole with Guy Rings - 17 Foot Maximum Length [CM-1820]

Where did you tune the antenna as far as the top length

You didn't get an answer so here it is; the top rod slides into the one below it and fastens with a set screw. The measurements on the sheet are quite accurate for the band 10 meters is huge so any CB antenna has to be retuned for the 10 meter band.

As high as possible. you might want to add some sort of variable tuning at the feed point. Otherwise you will always be taking the thing up and down or making sacrifices at either end of the bands. You can use a tuner at the shack but i'm feeling that some type of tuner at the antenna would be better. You can tune this antenna to the band you need but you have to do it manually each time. otherwise it mainly covers one of the 3 bands depending which one you tune it for.
