For a more vivid coloration of the smoke, I suggest adding powdered paint to the mixture instead of the crayon wax. It seems to bond better with the smoke mixture in my experience. Powdered tempera paint is also dirt cheap.

minecraftengineer do you add the power dry or wet it. I added dry and it didn't seem to work.

I added green powdered paint and it worked fine. It's all about the ratio. I would say what ratio I used, but it was a while ago and I forgot (sorry). Do some experimentation with the amount of paint, adding slightly more each time until you get the right mix.

Adding a small amount of Bi Carb Soda into the mix will slow down the reaction and create more coloured smoke as the reaction is cooler and longer burning

Hello Sir! Great videos, you are very gifted at what you do! First off unlike some people watching your videos, I am old enough, and it's amazing how parent's these days do not monitor there kids. I am in the process of making some of your pull string fuses for the smoke bombs. I will be using them in a Cival War reinactment that me and my co worker's participate in every year. So I was wondering on the pull string fuse, with the 3" shell, how long did you make that fuse? And also would you happen to know what mixture I would use to slow down the burn time? Thanks!

+CtrlAltPhreak I don't know for sure, but probably not, Powdered sugar has corn starch in it to keep it from clumping. I think that would affect the end result.

+ComputerSchool101 We use powder sugar all the time when making fireworks, you are completely fine, just make sure you choose "pure" powder sugar. As for the blender, do NOT use a metal blade. The KNO3 is an oxidizer and due to the friction of the blade may cause combustion.

To remove the paper from the crayons super fast, just put them in the freezer for a while... paper slides right off and will save a ton of time if you plan on peeling a lot.

+leftnao hello. Potassium nitrate absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. So if you wish to store them, they have to be stored in an air tight box. (Plastic)

swallow forge...maybe you can add a tablespoon of baking soda to slow down the burning in order to give you more smoke i like the ring pull grenade system

In my experience, the baking soda mearly changes the speed of combustion, it doesn't appear to create more smoke. In the open on a windy day, I found that the fast combustion creates a bigger cloud of smoke, the slower burn getting dispersed more quickly. But hey its fun to experiment with these things, so if it works for you it may work for others :) All the best SF

Potassium nitrate is used for curing meat such as ham, corned beef and making Salami. So some butchers and delicatessens will have some. Also it is used to rot down tree stumps and is sold in some garden centres as Stump Remover. Hope that helps. SF

Advise against using yellow tape on an olive drab sphere with a ring on the top. Very easily mistaken for a high explosive (color coding is used for this reason, yellow is HE).Recommend white electrical tape instead. Source: 89 Bravo.

Sorry to hear you were shot down. My advice stems from training MOS 89B, USA. Color coding on artillery is intended to provide visual aid in identifying round contents. Olive drab painted exterior is common, so different colored rings on a round indicate what it is meant to do. Yellow is high explosive, brown is low explosive, red is tracer, silver is incendiary, black is armor-piercing. Granted a grenade would not likely bear colored markings indicating its usage, but with the militarization of police forces in America one can not be too careful and should try to avoid confusing them, or possibly end up perforated.

+Vage Firstly I am not a chemist, just an enthusiastic amateur. However, ammonium nitrate is usually associated with bomb making, so I would be very cautious in both purchasing and using it. The mix I have shown is tried and tested and the same as you will find on countless smoke mix tutorials. Be safe.

Alexander Zabroski Haha. Well, it depends on where you get it. Some places it's dirt cheap stuff that can rival the quality of say, Hawaiin, but nothing can rival Dutch weed. In some places of the island, it's guarded by soldiers with machine guns and M16s, so you'll have to be very careful, and those areas tend to be a bit expensive.
