Not many people know this, but due to the way feature generation in ocean biomes works, if a patch of dirt were to generate in an ocean biome, trees are able to be placed on it, even though it is an ocean. This explains the tree Pix found on an iceberg (frozen ocean).

Its also like this with lush caves (at least on bedrock) theres azalea trees in aquifers and the middle of huge underwater caves, i personally find this hilarious, not really stupid or anything, its just funny to see trees underwater
@ManosSef
@ManosSef 3 жыл бұрын
@@jxzh_1 azalea trees are different. An azalea tree feature contains the tree itself and its root system. The feature starts generating down where the lush cave is, and places rooted dirt above that all the way until it finds air or water with nothing else above it, where it will place the azalea tree. This makes sure that azalea trees can spawn on the surface no matter what biome there is. But as I said, it can be in water. So that's why azalea trees can spawn in water. Same goes for swamp trees since 1.17.

Can we take a minute and appreciate Mojang's continued commitment to Minecraft? Exploring these experimental snapshots really gives us some insight into just how huge and complex the caves & cliffs update really is. And that for a game that some of us have been playing for over a decade now. That kind of continued development for a single game by a commercial studio is all but unheard of. The only thing I can think of off hand that is similar would be WoW, and even that is more about a content pipeline than it is about full on continued game development.
@allerasthesphinx7184
@allerasthesphinx7184 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah but the WoW expansions aren’t really new content as much as they are a way for blizzard to trick people into doing the exact same thing but with a different theme, until their progress is inevitably wiped and they get to grind gear again and again, paying the subscription fee all the while. Although it isn’t like Minecraft is introducing that many new mechanics either, if you’re even a small member of the Minecraft modding community, you'd realize how little content mojang has released compared to the massive amount of features that exist in mods. Mods three times as large as the caves and cliffs update are developed in a few months by a team of 10 people doing it in their free time, compared to mojang taking years while having 20 times the resources. That’s the one thing they could take from blizzard, looking at content the community makes, and if it’s extremely popular than remaking it as source material. They could save themselves so much effort too, by just checking out well known, vanilla themed mods, and packing them onto the game for a free expansion.

@@allerasthesphinx7184 1.17 and 1.18 combined could compete with most mods. After all, both versions form part of a giant update that makes a lot of mods feel small, for instance, 1.18 already surpasses yung's better caves and quark's caves and it's starting to get even better than terraforged itself, and 1.17 added 107 new blocks in total. 1.18 might even add even more blocks aside from the deep dark biome and might add some few more biomes. So in conclusion, the caves and cliffs update isn't getting few content and is getting a massive overhaul that will change the way the game looks in terms of generation.
@allerasthesphinx7184
@allerasthesphinx7184 3 жыл бұрын
Sure terraforged alone wouldn’t stand against 1.17 and 1.18 together. But if you combined it with biomes o plenty, wich is a synergy intended by the authors, then you get a massive overworld overhaul, that dwarfs caves and cliffs in comparison. Also O the biomes you’ll go and travelers delight are strong competitors as well. Even William wythers overhauled overworld (wich already has the 1.18 caves in an add on) is as good as the update will be, with the key difference being that it’s been out for a month while 1.18 is still gonna be a while.

@@allerasthesphinx7184 And that's because 1.18 uses multi-noise for its biome placement, which is 5-dimensional coordinates. That's the reason why 1.18 is using experimental snapshots and not regular snapshots and why there are microbiomes in the first place. Another reason why it's taking long is because 1.18 is receiving feedback so it can be polished and run smoother, if 1.18 were to be released today, it would be badly optimized. Also, I think that 1.18 with Biomes o' Plenty will look even better than terraforged and Biomes o' Plenty combined, since 1.18 introduces those said microbiomes which gives the world a lot of variation.

I think what they could also do with the iron scarcity is maybe make something like chainmail craftable with iron nuggets or something. Because I actually like how scarce surface iron is because it extends the early game of Minecraft & also makes it a little more challenging, which is great because early game is next to non-existent right now. You can easily get to the mid game in two to three days without having to worry about surviving the early game & stuff. The only problem with iron scarcity is that, although it extends the early game & makes it more challenging, it also makes the transition from early game to mid game TOO challenging. Craftable chainmail armor using iron nuggets should help with that issue, but without removing this extension of the early game that's happening.

If you need assistance in installing fabric, don't worry, I also used a youtube tutorial on how to install fabric and subsequently worldedit, it worked like a charm. 25:49 I can’t confirm because, well, I don’t know, but I would guess that ocean biomes and land biomes are being married in these experimental snapshots, at least regarding temperature. The reason they were separate from 1.13-1-17 was specifically to avoid changing the land biome generation. Since they’re rebuilding biome distribution from the ground up, there’s no reason to keep them split apart. As I understand it, Mojang is using the random noise generator they used in the Nether Update for the new biome placement, which _should_ have enough parameters to allow ocean biomes and land biomes into the same mix. It’s of course possible that they’re still split up- I just wanted to give my thoughts 28:43 or maybe not 😅😅😅

I feel like with changing the spawning algorithm Mojang took out a huge chunk of endgame (or depth, quite literally) from the game. While making no noticable change to the casual survival player, this change removes 8-10 years of progress made by the technical community improving mob farms, creating the perfect conditions and figuring out the ins-and-outs of the most efficient way to farm mobs. Minecraft's charm for me is that there is always more to learn and room to improve. I've only started playing 2 years ago, and it's the time now that I started discovering the possibilities and learning about optimizing farms. I'd honestly play hundreds of hours less if mob spawning was unified and you'd only need a stone platform on build limit to make the best farm possible. With all that said, this is just some thoughts of a fellow Minecraft player, feel free to correct me and/or start a discussion in replies. And if you read this all, you're cool, have a great day!

@@tonyzamora5529 I think you're missing my main point, it's not at all about perimeters. It is about farm designs, creativity, effort, optimization and reward for the time you put in. With the new spawning algorithm, none of that is needed anymore. You pillar up, make a platform, flush it from time to time and thats it, the most efficient farm possible. Nothing to improve, nothing to innovate or to be creative about. With the old system, however, if you put in effort to light up caves you could get up to 64x the spawns low down in the world than on the surface (the old surface/y=64 spawning rates are equal to the global 1.18 exp.3 rates), and you had to be creative with the killing solution because the mobcap would be filled almost immediately, ruining efficiency. This effort you put in was rewarded with a lot more drops than the lazy go-up-and-afk-more way. And about the perimiter you mentioned, the new moss spreading mechanic is a very good way to get to the bottom of the world. And world eaters exist too. Not many people have built perimeters before, but the ones who did it will probably do it again, invest their time for the reward of getting a fast farm and good rates, leaving them with more time to work on the other aspects of the game.

It has a huge cave cut into the side of it; which in snapshot 2 had a mineshaft with a path down to an enourmous lava pool over deepslate. You could follow a lavafall over the edge of the lake down to another giant cavern that sat underneat the lava lake (the perfect place for a deep underground Nether Portal). It's the best landscape I've ever seen in Minecraft. Unfortinately in Snapshot 3, the biginning of the cave is still there, but the mineshaft is not, its location is underwater and I'm unable to find the lava lake :(

I like this new generation but i think with all the biomes that we have now, they should implement back the 1.0-1.6 continental generation. The thing that most players and myself hated about that generation was not the generation itself but the lack of diversity, the oceans were flat, less deep and empty, the land was really boring and repetitive with something like 10 biomes.. imagine NOW exploring and mapping the entire continent with all the biomes and structures we have now and building towns and cities on it and connecting them, then exploring the big oceans to find icebergs, coral reefs, temples, sunken ships, mushroom islands and other big or small islands with different biomes and structures on it. Mojang is doing really well with the recent updates but think about it, the average player doesn't go far away from the spawn and he doesn't go further simply because there is no need for doing that, you can find everything near spawn and there is only one structure that usually generates far away and it's useless (the mansion). Now in 1.17 we have a lot of options for moving fast in the world, elytras, nether ice roads for boats, ender pearl cannons, we have everything we possibly need for exploring a big world and yet the minecraft world is big but at the same time small because it's all near spawn.

I left two possible designs on your 4th episode of Empires, but in case you haven't had the chance to look at it here they are below. Pixandrian Republic Banner: Take a Yellow Banner and some Brown dye and use the Top-down Gradient pattern, then Repeat but with the Bottom-up Gradient pattern instead. Next, take some Red Dye and use the Left Stripe pattern. Then, Take some Cyan dye and use the Right Stripe pattern. Finally, take some Yellow dye and use the Roundel Pattern on it, and now you have the Banner of the Pixandrian Republic! Pixandrian Empire Banner: for this, you'll want to follow the instructions for the Pixandrian Republic Banner. However, just before you start to add the Stripes in, use a Red Flower Charge so that the Stripes can cover the sides and make it look like a nice bit of detailing or something. To be honest, I based these off of the Iranian Republic and Empire Flags as Iran is Desert terrain as is Pixandria. Hope you like the idea and I'll catch you in your next video!

Careful with comparisons of Minecraft biomes and their (largely useless) temperature and supposed aridity with the real world -- there are cold deserts (the Gobi can get down to -40C in winter), it snows in Badlands National Park, and tropical savannas have monsoons. I love that the micro biomes are back. I saw several sealevel caves too, and I really like them. As for the mob spawning changes, while I am semi-technical, especially as regards automation and redstone contraptions, I am not technical as in SciCraft. I am agnostic about the change; it's all the same to me. And if it makes more sense to new players, that's good. I am pretty sure there are still plenty of technical aspects to discover in order to satisfy more technical players, but I am sure they'll be educating me on it on their own channels. ;)

I think that the mob spawning changes are not very conducive to a difficult fighting experience lower in the world. I have always thought that the lower in the world the more deadly it should be and the old mobspawning rules went along with that well. This would also be helpful for making the deepdark a much scarier place. But overall I understand the change because they are trying to reduce lag in chunks that are now twice as big.

The developers have already confirmed that the 'Deep Dark' biome will only spawn the Warden - other mobs won't spawn there at all. But that's different from the deepslate caves we've already seen, and I agree it makes sense for there to be more risk visiting those areas of the world.

New mob spawning rules despite Y level requirements means there is an added urgency to sleep through the nights as mobs will spawn more frequently on surface level, making it much more dangerous to travel at night. Could be a good thing, might not be depending on how they implement it.

So they removed the system that caused mobs to spawn more often at lower Y-level, and spawn less often at higher Y-level. Mobs now have consistent spawning at all Y-levels, with the spawn rate being about what it would have been at Y-64 prior to the world height increase (Y-64 being ground level / 1 block above sea level). I really hope they don't revert this, as it's a _huge_ improvement for mob farms created by the average / casual player.

Thank you for making these! The side-by-side comparisons are really interesting and a great way to showcase the changes in generation. I actually find it kind of amazing how you can see the same base DNA of each world, only with different features and layouts on top. I do really love watching you explore the snapshots in survival mode too, it does a great job showcasing how the changes will affect how we play. It's also pretty entertaining to get a sort of mini-playthrough of each snapshot. Big fan of the style of your update videos!

I'm a technical player, and I don't think the changes to mob spawning will change an awful lot. IMO it was never worth digging a perimeter for a regular mob farm. Most technical players don't want to invest that much time into that in my experience. For passive mobs, it was all about a quite small area dug to bedrock. Most of the work was making sure there was no grass in the spawn chunks and near the farm, which you still need to do. Perimeters for a slime farm or a better witch farm (which were the most common ones) are still needed AFAIK. I feel like this change is mostly there to make sure there are some surface mobs at night time, since they are now more likely to spawn there instead of in caves

The new Mesa microbiomes in the deserts and Savannahs is so good. Probably the best part of the whole update in my opinion. The huge but rare mesa biomes of before looked really weird and were hard to find, but these small and common ones blend in so well and break up the bland deserts and savannahs.

The problem with the new mob spawning per subchunks is that it doesn´t change anything with surface farm while not fixing the presumptive issues with the current mob spawning in these snapshot mentioned by kingbdogz on twitter. With these changes, that mobs spawn per subchunk, it only slowes down the maximum speed that is possibile and removes the challenge and goal as well as the revard of building a perimeter. For a more detailed version check out Ilmango and Kdender, they explaned the changes to the mobspawning in detail. I appreciate that you exlore these snapshots always, unlike most other, in survival and that you take your time to find out how those changes matter for the gameplay, even with so many other projects to manage!

I'm not a particularly good redstone builder but I do feel like some reward should be given to those willing to set up huge perimeters all the way down to bedrock as opposed to those that build their farms much higher as is the easier option. And I guess it kinda makes sense in a gameplay perspective that there are more hostile mobs the lower you go. Overall this change doesn't effect the things I've built cuz I do build higher farms, but it's still something that should be looked into.

if caves get more updates i hope we can get more cave layers like for example the deeper we go we get like magma caves under the deep dark, then either lush caves, spikey caves( at this point, i forgot the names), aquifers, then maybe ice caves then the surface opening then maybe new mobs in each cave especially with more ambient and anti climactic caves like magma caves and ice caves probably, then maybe even ore caves or smtg

My opinion on the changes to spawning mechanics is: it's awesome that height no longer matters. it's not a problem that the max rates are lower now, the old ones with a full perimeter were absurd. it's great that nobody will be making eyesore perimeters to ruin worlds. only thing i'm not sure about is mob spawning being blocked at any light level above zero, i am used to the light level 7 condition but i think we will adjust fairly quickly, and it does have the advantage of not requiring as many torches, which frankly are also eyesores mostly.

In my opinion the algorithm for spawning did have to change. Slimes in swamps, Witchhut spawns and a few other spawn rules that were location/height dependent would spawn less if it wouldn't have changed. Mojang is currently asking for feedback on potential other ways of fixing this issue.

As a semi-tech player I don't think that the spawning algorithm should be independent from hight. Now mob farms are quite well balanced when it comes to effort to reward ratio. With these new changes normal players won't notice any change (since the mob cap is still 70) and putting a lot of work into making mob farms more efficient won't be a thing anymore. I think that the algorithm slould be more similar to the current one. The only exeptions would be mobs that spawn in structures like guardians or witches cause they are located highier up.

To me, the mob spawning being smoothed just means we’re going to a see a whole lot more from spawners like the quad one you built in the SG season 1. We’ll see people going near build height over ocean biomes, eliminating as many mob spawns as is possible for the least amount of effort. Then the rates of those spawns are going to be exponentially higher if the spawning has been smoothed. It seems like the direction they’re taking Minecraft is more disparity between early, middle, and late game. Early game you’re scrambling for iron and diamonds, making bundles. Mid game you’re trading with villagers, doing basic farms, and preparing for the dragon fight. End game is after you kill the dragon and get flying, shulkers, and truly large farms going.

I think the mob spawn change is a good thing. Because digging perimeters will soon be a whole new challenge. But I also think that there will be plenty of players still going the extra mile and dig out an area underground just to avoid large and ugly floating mob farms. I am curious to see if and how servers adapt to this change. Are we going to see more farm building restrictions in certain areas? Designated Farming district? This for sure is something I will bring up when our SMP goes to the next season.
