very nice. my only concern is having 2 main rotor blades instead of 3. The two bladed main rotors are susceptible to mast bumping which is also a problem for Robinsons and other manufactures. JMO
@cicareusa
@cicareusa 3 ай бұрын
True, but 3-blade rotors also have a risk of ground resonance. This aircraft doesn’t have the dramatic pitch change during a power loss that Robinson does, so the risk of mast bumping is less likely unless someone is doing something quite drastic. We also use Delrin mast bump stops to absorb shocks to the mast.

@cicareusa
@cicareusa 3 ай бұрын
As an Experimental in the US you can, but the main rotor has to run a single RPM so you may not get much of an advantage. Max continuous horsepower is within 2hp of the 915 iS turbo and the greater max takeoff of the 916, while about 19 hp more, isn’t really available without higher RPM. The great TBO currently on the 916 May soon be available on the 915 as well.

@lunchbagr4750
@lunchbagr4750 3 ай бұрын
There's no efficiency advantage at higher altitudes. And at helicopter speeds, more headwind at altitude could make things worse. Above 500 feet is enough to keep you clear of most wires and towers. It should be enough height to autorotate to some open spot if needed - if not, you can fly a little higher and give yourself more options. The lower altitude minimizes time to land in event of a time-critical emergency, for example a fire or transmission chip light.

You can fly a helicopter at higher altitudes and gain some of the same advantages as an airplane such as higher TAS and possibly better tail winds. However, the VNE of the helicopter is drastically reduced at high density altitudes (retreating blade stall). Since the R22 is the closest I’ll give you the numbers: 102KIAS is VNE up to 3000DA and VNE slows to a whopping 57KIAS at 10,000’ and 30 degrees C! Obviously not ideal for long cross country flights.
