Ed thankyou for taking the time, your channel has taught us lots and my grandson and I have had lots of fun with foam board planes. designs from you and FT. This is a great solution to make deployment pretty much reliable. I'm 65 and every day is still a schoolday! Thanks again👍

Very good info here. I was an "AME" in the Navy and also a certified skydiver. This info will make my RC hobby more interesting for sure! Job well done!

I subbed a long time ago and never left. You were my original inspiration to get into rc airplanes. I later suggested your method of making wings (giving you full credit) to FliteTest and they did some that way. Some where along the line I thought about adding a parachute to my plane as a "ballistic"-type safety chute should the plane be in a hard crash situation but I never did implement it though. I mention this because I see in your parachute videos where some chutes have no payload but are attached to the plane. Thank you for being a true pioneer in the DIY rc airplane arena! Will

Hi Ed, i just want to thank you for a great channel and for sharring all your great idea's and your knowledge of rc aircraft and the fun with them, i have built a couple of your parachutes and i built one of the release mec. They work fatastic, thank you again for shareing, take care my friend and have a great day, Terry

I lost my thumb and most of the palm of my left hand plus broke most most of the bones from a pyrotechnic device (skydiving smoke bomb) which exploded in my hand. My index finger was moved over to the thumb position and hooked up to the tendons, nerves, and blood vessels. It works well enough - way preferable to no thumb at all, which was my state for 11 months. More in the "intro to Ed" video on my channel too.

Very elegant design. Would also work as a release mechanism to tow a glider with small mods. Good work!

Another GREAT video! Im actually building a small air brake/parachute for a rc dragster so I need a smaller release but this gave me some ideas! Thanks again!

Very cool idea! Former skydiver myself so I get your reasoning behind the pin mechanism. I would like to try this as a pilot chute for a larger aircraft rescue canopy.

Very nice design. Note that the servo arm flexes and stresses the servo with the loose deployment rodI would suggest using a small slice of plastic card across the end perpendicular to the plastic card and notch a v to secure/guide the rod at the deployment side. Hotel key cards are suitable, and make great glue/spac spreaders, control horns etc.! Cheers.

WOW thats quite a story. I lost the tip of my thumb and index finger also from a home made firecracker when I was 16. No nails on them as they were cut off just past the final joint. I really could have lost more as it was a large little bomb. My uncle has his big toe on his left hand as a thumb due to a farming machinery accident.

My parachutes are very large and I use small 40-60sz planes. So, I have to place the parachute at the CG and under the plane. I use a standard servo with a strong release pin. I sometimes use a 10 foot parachute with a 8oz water bottle for the parachute weight. I like keeping the chute weight lite so it drops slow. Sometimes even goes up instead of down some of the time. I do like the looks of your Cargo plane.

This is on my to-do list :-) Going to see if I can drop my parachute guy from my Axon.

This is great! I was thinking would be nice to protect the plane from losing radio. I plan on adding a servo, setting the Rx failsafe to deploy chute upon radio loss.

Pretty slick Idea! very nice little release mechanism, to add to the comment below (about a radio drop) I'm into RDF (Radio Direction Finding) one could build a small cheap Tx do the drop and then using RDF rig "Hunt" for the Tx would e a lot a fun -Thanks for the video

to ensure the arm doesn't get pulled over to one side, you could make a small v shape notch under the arm for it to sit in. :)

Dude, harshing the calamari, rather see magnetic strip eh. Thanks for sharing your creativity. I'm hoping this parachute design will still work if it's smaller.

Forget cargo! I want to see if a parachute can prevent damage to a falling quadcopter. Maybe even some mechanism that would deploy a parachute and disengage anything driving the motors, so a "runaway" flight could be aborted. I thought about a tube hinged down with a sprung plunger at the base, so that when the tube as deployed, it would spring up and release the spring pushing the parachute out the top, clear of the props. I don't know how large a parachute it would take to slow a quad down in a fall though.
@ExperimentalAirlines11 жыл бұрын
Ah so. No, you need the porosity of the netting to allow the air to come in from below and inflate the upper canopy.
