Yes, too excited to watch to the end to comment! Thank you Edward, I use something similar but with a treble hook at the end, with those lures I usually snag fish going for the bait rather than actually getting bit…also lifting and falling is the best retrieval for that style lure… The smaller 1 ounce get bit but it’s a hard lift and fast retrieval and stop let hit hit bottom rest and repeat 🍻

@@Hook2Cook thank you for trying something new… I’ve been begging every OG Fishing KZbinr to try it…you’re the only brave soul so far but please try it again with the lift and fall technique or with a smaller profile like a 28g/1ounce if perch are your target…that bait with technique gets huge predators to bite so up your gear (line strength, I use 30# braid to about a 4’-5’ 50# mono/or floro leader) and be ready for a real fight, I promise….I also have fished the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana and follow Bama Beach Bum and crew and have used these techniques with success here in SoCal

This is making me want to try out a kastmaster in the surf. A good way to work those “irons” is to give it a pop every so often and let it flutter. Works great in SD bay.

I catch perch and jack smelt on epoxy jigs in Monterey bay. I actually caught a big smelt today on a 1oz joe baggs with a single hook. They work, but strictly on bigger fish that will also go for a Minnow type lure. Tip down and reel slow works well for me (or) tip at 45 degree angle and slight pumps while reeling just like LC or Calissa.

I have very similar thoughts to you about looking for hard baits around 4" & 3/4 or 1 oz. The days when wind is not a problem seem to be rarer & rarer. I also have a lot of problems with small fish eating the tails off my soft baits, and the only fish I seem able to find are the little 6" guys. Maybe I'm throwing too far, and I'm getting the little fish on the rear of the pack that are bullied off the front lines by the bigger fish? My beach doesn't have a lot of defined structure, it is mostly sandbars, and I keep thinking I need to throw past where the waves break to get past the sandbars.
