11 years later and this gentleman’s tutorial is still highly relevant!!! Thank you. It’s viewing should be a required viewing for all Prius owners. Additionally, he kindly takes ‘other drivers’ on the road into sincere consideration, as you can become obsessed with hypermiling technique at the expense of other’s road enjoyment. Superb production & performance values, as well 👍🏻👍🏻.

First and third are the same, if you want to drive a Prius with real low fuel consumption. 3,5l/100km averagely with a Prius 4. In addition it is very helpful to have good experience with the HSD and know all its tricks for lowering fuel consumption. Never be in a hurry but stay relaxt all the time while you drive your Prius.

The ecomodder pulse and glide slightly presses the accelerator in the glide. There is a freewheeling engine off zone somewhere between light regenerative braking with the accelerator completely up, and light electric motor use.

I have a slight beef with regenerative braking and it goes like this. Sure it puts power back into the battery. But it's on when coasting too. You don't have to touch the brake pedal to start slowing down as soon as you release the pressure on the accelerator pedal. Slip the car into neutral and you'll feel the car free up and roll a lot longer. That means you could have taken your foot off of the accelerator a lot sooner. The only time the regen should be working is when the brakes are being used. That's not the case in the gen 2 at least. Unless my car's been busted since new. Any opinions???

Thank you for the helpful video! Very well instruction. Now, I understand pulse, glide and coast definition. I have a 2013 prius V. Would you tell me on which way would be better for my prius V on getting better gas mileage? I wonder which mode would be better to for braking on a downhill/downgrade. Using the B mode or by applying the brake gently(three bar charging). But then, would I be overheating the brakes or wearing out the brake by riding the brake on a long downgrade.(my brake pressure on the brake pedal "just reach the 3 bar charging indicator). Sometimes, I'd released the brake gentle(down to two bar charging mode and 3bar indication) to see if I am using the brake or just using the regenerative braking mode. Would I damage the engine by shift my prius V to the "B mode" driving on the downgrade to control my car speed(coast at 50mph to a complete stop)? Using the brake gently or shift to B mode and kick the rev up, using engine braking! Would this create more pressure in the CVT? Would this damage the CVT? Or create premature wear for the engine..?

I'd rather use my brakes and get the pads replaced than engine wear and tear. However I don't know much about B mode

There is no such thing as "momentum IN the road." There is momentum of the car on the road, but that was energy from gas or electric, which is only two sources. Maybe he means the pull of gravity when going downhill.
@UnseenSpirit3 жыл бұрын
Basically he means coasting once your car is up to speed. Perhaps I would have coined in momentum on the road.

@ericsantana7735 жыл бұрын
If I am correct if you use B on a downhill it is so you don't wear out and overheat brakes and not to overcharge batteries while in full charge. It won't charge batteries while using B on a downhill even if it shows charge on grid.

I have a question about a 2010-2015 prius C. Is it normal for me to floor a prius all the time? I am not looking to save gas at the moment, but to be able to accelerate to the speed limit without interfering with the traffic behind. I am used to driving v6/v8 cars with well over 300hp. I find that flooring a prius is around the same acceleration as pressing the gas a couple inches on those cars. So is it ok for me to keep flooring a prius, or am I wrong and i can safely accelerate from 0-60 by pressing the gas only 1/4 of the way?
