Hello everyone, this is the first video in a 3 part series where I will be covering very experienced hunters that seemingly vanished into thin air. Most of these cases didn't get a lot of media coverage, and don't have a lot of readily available info, but after digging deeper into the archives of various newspapers, I found enough info, and I wanted to share these cases with you.
In this first video we will be discussing James P. Rambone Jr. who went missing in September of 2003 in the northern tundra of Quebec, Canada. Mr. Rambone was 51 years old at the time and had been hunting since he was a kid. He had over 40 years of experience! He was overjoyed at the opportunity to go up on this Caribou hunting excursion that was set to last 8 days... Located in a place called Camp Sardine near the Caniapiscau River. This location was almost 250 miles from the nearest village. Although Mr. Rambone was epileptic, he had not had a seizure in over two years and had seen his physician in July of that year; and was given a clean bill of health.
The trip was going great until one day he saw some Caribou and went off on his own.. This here is his story..
Thank you all for watching🙏
Please remember when commenting that this is someone's family member, or loved one who desperately wants answers.

I think what happens sometimes with the highly experienced people who go missing in the wilderness, unfortunately, is they can get overconfident. Especially after years and decades of carrying all that safety equipment with them and never needing it. Until that one time they didn't bring it because they had never needed it before, and that's when they get caught off guard.

Totally agree. And it doesn't even make sense to wonder why experienced hikers find themselves in trouble. You obviously won't go missing when you are new because you are overcautious and most likely with other people around you. An experienced person is simply someone who does this often so clearly the odds of them going missing or finding themselves in trouble are higher than someone who does this once or twice in their lifetime. And anyway you could have experience in hiking but it's not necessarily experience in dealing with a difficult life threatening situation. When that happens it can unfortunately be fatal.

I’m sorry to say this but I would never go off alone. I’m Type 1 diabetic which isn’t epilepsy but in both cases, you can become very vulnerable & disoriented very suddenly, even if your chronic illness is controlled. Stress can definitely trigger an episode (seizure or low sugar drop) in both cases so it’s not a good idea to go into remote wilderness areas in my humble opinion. Condolences to his family & friends.

@mainemermaid6596

Yes. That's what I was thinking. We need more info on the scene where the Caribou was. He may have shot 3 times (the hunters signal that they need help), but they only heard 2. Or, more likely, he shot the animal, then realized that it was too late, and the caribou was too big, to clean and pack out by himself, so he decided to walk back to get his friends. Unfortunately, on the way, he tripped and fell, or had a seizure (perhaps rolling down, into a hollow or boulder area), and broke a leg & sustained other injuries. He may have only had 2 bullets left, and used them to signal to his friends. Unfortunately, they didn't interpret the shots to mean that he was in trouble. The fact that they couldn't find him later, means that he wasn't on the expected route from the scene. This means that he'd either gotten lost before falling, or was taking a roundabout way back (maybe thinking it was a shortcut, but it was dangerous terrain). Then, he passed out from the pain, blood loss, and/or shock, and the fact that he was camouflaged, ensured that he wouldn't be found. To make matters worse...It gets cold at night in Canada, even in the Summer (as it does in the mountains, here in Maine), so had he still been conscious, he'd probably have covered himself in leaves to stay warm, but still died of hypothermia and his injuries that night. (And now, he'd really be hidden from view!) As an experienced woodsman, if he'd been mobile, I believe that he'd have known not to wander too far. He would've made a fire, and most likely, been found. I don't believe that he was attacked, because an animal would've been after the big, meat carcass (a natural food source), not the human. They'd have just run him off, or if they attacked him, there would've been an attack scene/blood trail nearby, and there wasn't. I really hope that his body will be found one day for his family. I can't imagine not ever knowing where my loved one was. Even after all these years, the scene might provide some answers, or perhaps he left a message somehow. I'll pray for them.

Regarding your point about hikers and dogs on leash: even in the city can be a problem if it’s off leash. My coworker routinely brought her dog to work and when she walked in the park across the street she’d have it off leash, often she’d have urban coyotes following her (it’s a big city, there are a ton of coyotes) to get the dog, and one time one was only a few feet away before she picked up the dog. Retractable leashes, too, they’re no good. They seemed like a great idea when they first appeared, but I will spare you the many stories I’ve heard of dogs who came to a tragic end because they were on those. A couple of people I know, others are stories from people I know whose dog *almost* had a terrible end because of those stupid leashes. I used to own a dog walking company, and when we had quarterly meetings with other company owners,we heard all kinds of stories from people’s clients whose dogs perished because of retractable leashes. If you love your dog, protect it and keep it safe, just like you would any other friend or family.

Yes. I used to live in Edmonton AB and the coyotes would stalk me when I was out walking my dog. This was damn near downtown. They travel through the green spaces and river valley. The fact that they couldn't find him later, means that he wasn't on the expected route from the scene. This means that he'd either gotten lost before falling, or was taking a roundabout/unexpected way back (maybe thinking it was a shortcut, but it was dangerous terrain). He would've made a fire, and most likely, been located. I don't believe that he was attacked, because an animal would've been after the big, meat carcass (a natural food source), not the human. They'd have just run him off, or if they attacked him, there would've been an attack scene/blood trail nearby, and there apparently wasn't. There would also be signs of the animal(s) haven eaten some of the carcass, and there wasn't. I really hope that his body will be found one day, for his family. I can't imagine not ever knowing where my loved one was. Even after all these years, it would haunt me, and the scene might provide some answers, or perhaps he left a message somehow. I'll pray for them. ❤

@@whitedragoness23 Hi. I was trying to envision what he did. When I hunt, I take off my vest while I'm dressing my deer, so I don't get bld all over it. Maybe he did the same, and forgot to put it back on before leaving. OR If he'd already gotten bld all over it (i.e. moving the Caribou to a better location for dealing with it), he may have taken it off there, so he wouldn't be bear bait while walking back to camp. I know that's what I'd do. They have Grizzlies up there.

Bless you, Bryan, I know in the past you’ve had nitpickers pestering you about pronunciation, you did fantastic. 👍🏼 Let’s face it, most people in Canada don’t pronounce Québec correctly! I’ve heard anglicizations and regional pronunciations for towns all over North America that can get really quite bizarre lol i’ve heard locals tact about very well-known towns and cities, and I don’t know where they’re referring to because of the regional pronunciation!! I’m less patient with professional broadcasters who really should know how to pronounce places in their own town. One of the newscasters here pronounces Vancouver “Vingcouver” and it makes me crazy… Or the traffic station what should know how to pronounce street names, given some of those they struggle with are words in common usage. As an aside, if only I had a dollar for every time they pronounced Helmken Street as “hem-likkin” lol No one should expect you or me or anyone else to know how to pronounce unusual or foreign names or places from far flung lands.

We disagree with the statement "very experienced hunter". He was a person who over estimated his abilities and the control of his chronic health problem. He was alone!! Alone in a hunting area, alone in an unfamiliar land. Now he is missing, no answers. But consider this, physical stress can bring on seizures and the state after the seizure is called a post ictal state. The brain is reorganizing the chaotic electrical signals it has experienced, the person is not awake nor aware and can easily wander off, remove clothing become lost. Had he gone with another person or more he could have been kept safe , then returned to his life. Not now. Your channel brigs out the importance of preplanning and staying together, never hiking/hunting alone.

Christine, I agree and I think that hubris is generally one of man's/ woman's biggest downfalls.. I'll make a correction in my next video but I was by no means saying that even If he was very experienced, it doesn't mean things can't happen.. In fact depending on a person's personality it can actually work against them.. it's not without a sense of irony that throughout history some of the worst disasters were due to man's/ woman's hubris. Everything from the titanic to the Challenger disaster.. thank you for watching and your feedback. I very much appreciate it🙏

A hunter, whom had epilepsy, travelled so far into the wilderness, where the Native population said that he should have had Guides, and he disappeared! Quelle surprise!
@mainemermaid6596
@mainemermaid6596 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. But, he went with a group, and we don't know who they were, or how well they may have known the area. (All we know, he may have wanted a guide, but the other guys didn't, so it's unfair to blame him for that.) Also, as an experienced hunter, he must've known how to navigate, generally (had a compass), so he must have fallen and/or broken a leg. The mistake he made was making the decision to go off on his own, and perhaps not carrying a lot of bullets. Those 2 shots were most likely his last ones. (Hunters know to shoot 3 times, wait, and repeat, when lost.) I really hope that he'll be found one day. The scene may still provide clues.
@felixcat9318
@felixcat9318 2 жыл бұрын
@@mainemermaid6596 There is absolutely no point in travelling with a group (whether for safety, companionship, or both) if you then separate from the group. It is a documented fact that once separated something occurs in which a lone individual cannot be located, and despite intensive searches, no trace of that person is ever found (certainly nothing that helps to identify what took place or where they are). Items of clothing and pieces of equipment may be discovered but these invariably raise more questions than provide insight into where the missing person may be. Personal responsibility for one's own safety and well-being requires more than just a full water bottle and a firearm. The traumatic experience of having a member of one's party disappear when they separate to go off on their own will live with them forever. Remaining in visual contact is hardly difficult. As with so many cases, the person vanishes and is never seen again, nor is anything found which provides insight into where they went. Whilst fascinating, it will devastate the people whose loved one is the person whom vanished.

I used to train dogs professionally and always train my own dogs. Untrained dogs are suitable for petting. Trained dogs are an asset and are rewarded with petting for good behavior. Sit, down, stay and heel are taught with vocal command simultaneously with a hand signal. All my dogs will always come when I call them. Start off when they are a puppy with a leash. Combine a hand signal beckoning with the command, “Come.” Work up to a horse lunge line, 30’ in length. When they will come instantly, it is now time to take them outdoors to a wooded area. I give the command they are used to, “Go Free.” They take off excitedly and I will go 30 yards or so in another direction and hide. When they come back they get worried because they can’t find me. Typically it’s the other way around and owners are worried trying to find their dog. After a few minutes, I stand up and call them with “Come.” You can see their relief. It only takes a few times of doing this. I will say, “Go Free.” Yet they won’t go too far and not out of eye sight of me. They constantly keep looking back to make sure I’m there. As the years go by it becomes a game, I hide and they seek. So much pleasure and heartwarming with mans’ and womens’ best friend. When hiking in unfamiliar terrain. Always stop every couple hundred yards or so and study your back trail. It always looks much more unfamiliar on your return. Not so if you keep looking back. Familiarize yourself with landmarks, tree stumps, a fallen tree, boulders, anything unusual or stands out that you can identify. Admiring the scenery is not enough. I’m familiar with the tread of my hiking boots and my friends also. I always have a sharp 5” blade knife that I can baton for splitting wood and shaving thin strips for kindling. A 9” folding saw, a fire starting flint and steel or ferro rod. A compass, para cord, rain poncho, space blanket/sleeping bag and Sawyer water purifier. Depending on predators, a 10mm up to a S&W 460. A Clint Eastwood line: “A man needs to know his limitations.”

I caught a glimpse of the newspaper article in the video - two shots were heard? What came of that I wonder, or did they investigate? That said it is so easy to become disoriented in the woods - and it can be terrifying. It doesn't matter how at home you are in the woods, once you become lost in them, the place you lived and breathed for suddenly becomes your worst nightmare. I am finding more and more stories about experienced hikers and woodsmen going missing, so I am beginning to think that experience sometimes will only help you so much. In cases of injury it can be devastating. Prayers for all missing and their loved ones.

IF you have ever been in the woods Far north in Canada ... You can have all the Skills and all the equipment, but None of that will save you when you turn around and have a Bull Moose standing beside you and isnt too happy . They will Fuck you up beyond words . Bears pfft, they can be spooked away easily, but a Rutting moose .... Youre Done for, unless you can climb a tree like a monkey, youre a goner . I frequented the woods most of my life and i can count on both hands the times ive been WAY deep in the bush and before you know it your upon a Family of bear or Moose .. Sure they make noise when walking, most times, but when they hear you they become silent and you dont even know its there until you literally walk up on it . I rem the first time it happened to me, i was like 10 or 11 years old when i ran upon my first bear family .. Scary, a little, but the chances of being attacked is pretty slim so i wasnt worried . But you need to pay attention Big Time . What you need to worry about more than Anything when out in the Bush, no matter where, is HYPOTHERMIA and knowing the Signs and Symptoms and Understand how to prevent and what to do when you find yourself in that situation . That kills more people then animals. When you become Hypo you make poor decisions, you also find yourself Overheated and strip down your clothing and end up freezing to death or succumb to the elements if you will . The smallest thing can be the Biggest issue when out in the bush . Its the Simple things you dont think about or ego stops the thought processes . Remember, You are NOT invincible and Nature isnt your buddy . Take better care when out in the woods . Cheers .

Look He took the Orange Vest Off To Mark The Kill so he could locate it again. Obviously due to the dense woods and few visible landmarks it would be super hard to find the deer after he went to get help packing the meat out. A grown man can pack out an Elk, Caribou are not as large as an Elk, but are much larger than typical WhiteTail. Normally you Quarter out the animal and use the hide as a pack. So he killed a deer Was The Deer Shot Twice, since they heard 2 shots off in the distance. If the deer was shot Once, which it is very easy to kill a caribou with a single shot. Also it is easy to distinguish between a Hit or Miss shot. How many holes in the deer. So after he shot the deer he took off his vest and left it to mark the spot. You're not going to leave your rifle or gear.... Must have gotten lost ... Lots of unanswered questions Lost hunters know the 3 shot distress signal.... But did he have enough ammo on him to signal. Sounds like we are not getting all the facts to contemplate what may have happened
