Glad to ear your tuck is fix ! Thank you for making the video about it , i totally agree whit your mechanic except for the gasket part, yes GM have crappie gaskets and Ford also have their fair share of gaskets and crappie plastics but Toyota have many other engines that not using this way of sealing and work fine whit out leaking or catastrophic failures, all i saying is they could went a different route , what it really piss me about this is the fact that no matter what it will leak again ! it boils down to time as the sealant gets old start to leak, i bet there is a lot of people whit this problem and dont even know it , but even whit all the corks this truck have i still believe they are a really good truck i am on my 3 gx and most likely i will get another after i finish setting up this one🤣

Common issue in the Toyota 2UR & 3UR V8s. I’m anticipating this happening to my IS F. I’m going to tackle it myself. I’m educating myself as much as I can. I had this service done on my 2012 GX at ~110k miles. I read up on it quite a bit and had a independent shop do it. I made sure they ordered the correct sealant from Toyota so it would be oem and wouldn't potentially be a generic sealant. That also ensured that what they used was 'fresh' and not expired from sitting on a shelf and separating which happens to a lot of sealants and greases etc when they've been sitting. The shop originally misdiagnosed the valley plate leak which I distinctly remember telling them that I thought it was, but they honored my original $600 estimate, and its been fine since at 2 years later
@CoastalGX

@@errldabbins that's great. Mine only had 88k miles when I noticed it. It's also a 2012 so I think this is an age thing and not necessarily caused by mileage.

BulletsGarage has sort of the opposite take on this and I think it's because his GSF wasn't leaking, so instead of focusing on what type of sealant, he replaced the type of coolant in his GSF and theorized that it's the coolant that's eating into the valley seal. I asked him about the information he gathered to develop this theory and he said it was mostly from facebook group discussions. Not saying that his theory is bunk because he got it off of Facebook, but rather that I truly want to get to the bottom of this and want to do my part in sharing what I know. I believe you already mentioned that this is a big topic in the Lexus forums, but Facebook groups are just as important to pay attention to as there are some folks there that are very skilled and some even work at Toyota/Lexus. I'm also glad this is being discussed on KZbin, but the comments section is hard to navigate between different videos.

@t415x I wound up buying a tube of the recommended sealant for the Valley leak on a 3MZFE. Surprisingly, the Toyota dealership here had it. It's expensive, but it's kind of convincing that it's usually only used by the techs for warranty work. So far, no leaks, and if paying extra gives a piece of mind of not having to go in the valley again for a good while or ever again for that issue, I'll take it.

I have something similar to you going on. I changed the trans fluid and the solenoid for the corresponding code with no luck. I didn't look at the filter but I am going to check that next when I go to install a valve body rebuild or 'zip kit' from Sonnex. Read up on worn bores in the valve body which cause pressure loss, and can throw codes related to different solenoids. The kit fixes the leaky bores with modified bore plugs and boost valve. From what I've gathered these parts can be replaced pretty easily, if you've gotten to the valve body (not hard) then you should be able to tackle replacing the valve body rebuild parts to shore up potential causes of pressure loss which lead to a lot of the transmission performance codes. Your solenoids can easily be function checked with a digital multimeter to rule out costly replacement of parts that are otherwise fine
