Sad some people are doing this. I always give my customers the best wood!

A full cord is 4'x4'x8' stacked tightly, it is quite a lot of wood, so be careful if they are stating how much they are selling. In MD it is illegal to sell firewood less than 1 cord in dimensions.

Weight of seasoned firewood makes a lot of sense since different wood species density content accounts for btu content. Firewood is 9,000 BTUs per pound iirc. Volume sales don't account for that. You just need to hope that whatever wood is purchased is in the higher end of density. You can look up the densities of various species to see the differences which equate directly to BTU content. Lastly, thrown or dropped firewood takes up a lot of extra volume. Stacked firewood is 128 cubic feet. Thrown firewood takes ~180 cubic feet equivalent to 128 cubic feet of stacked. Don't let anyone try to fool you into buying 128 cubic feet of thrown wood as an official cord.

The sad part is scams can happen to the fire wood person. Keep your regular people. Most important. New people can be dangerous. I have dumped big dump truck loads to people that got my number from other costumers, just for them to say leave your trespassing. No money with lots of dangerous work ,if you cut down you oun trees.

Also when face cord is mentioned that doesn't define the cubic feet. Deal in cubic feet where a cord is 128 cubic feet and fractions thereof. To me talking face cords add confusion and is used sometime to rip the buyer off.

Face cord equals 1/3 of a cord.

Face cord also equals 1/4 cord when cut 1 foot or 1/2 cord when cut 2 feet, therefore confusion can be created.
