Staying current on an ME plane and review on one is what gets tricky about this rating if it's not what you typically fly.

Very true. Also staying proficient can be a challenge. That is why Many people try to get their ratings close to their getting hired at a job requiring the rating. This can also be a challenge because I have counseled many pilots unable to schedule a check ride or training before their start date at the new job.

💯% correct! I’m so glad that I got my multi commercial first and single as an add on. Have a few friends who are struggling to get in the airlines for not having it as you said. I made my hours as a CFI, but I’m considering getting my double I after type rating. At some point I would like to still teach on the side and be able to teach instrument as well.

💯 correct. I pushed my son to get His ME commercial rating at about 750 hrs total time. That put him on top of the applicant pool.

I talked to a friend yesterday. We both love aviation, but I think we are not alone in that we are thinking about calling it quits. It just isn’t any fun anymore. It has just become a lot of work and regulation without much fun. My friend had his license pulled because he had sleep apnea 20 years ago when he was overweight. Another friend quit his job and got all his ratings and got a job with Skywest. After six months he quit and is now working for an A&P. General Aviation is dead. Commercial aviation is not far behind: it just isn’t any fun getting crammed in a tube without any services. If it keeps going in the direction it is going, I’ll be out too.

If I have met all of the hour requirements for a R-ATP, have CFI, CFII, MEI, and have completed the ATP written, what else can I do to stand out to recruiters if I want to work for an airline or corporate gig?

Volunteer and be a good human. I have a friend who was recruited while volunteering at a booth for an aviation organization. The second show where the recruiter noticed them, they asked if they would like to do an interview, and they did it right at the event. This is a true story and it happened in October. (Edit: They met at PAPA then again at LPA. Going to the regionals.)

Maybe volunteer at an aerobatic contest. Several of our friends from the local chapter were pretty senior pilots at majors. Unusual attitudes training isn’t bad either, if you haven’t already done it.

Is it worth paying for ATP CTP

Really depends on the situation and if you already have a job offer. In a competitive hiring environment many pilots will pay for the CTP ATP to stand out in the applicant pool.
