HUGE All Quiet on the Western Front fan, here. I've seen it twice. Plays even better on a re-watch. Incredible techs. It wouldn't be my BP winner, but it could rank high on ballots. I'd personally give it wins for Int'l, Cinematography and Hair/Make-Up.

Ariana still, of course, deserves her Oscar. That being said the BAFTA thing was high school talent show quality At Best. And, heck yeah, go for it at the Oscar's!!!

Stating the obvious (and backing up Joyce's assessment on this), there's 5 (or 10 for Best Picture) slots every year for each category, and always more in the running for these slots pre-nominations, so unless they create 100 slots for each category (and maybe not even then) non-nominees are going to have big issues with the Academy after the nominees are announced.

If EEAAO wins Ensemble, they may not feel the need to reward Yeoh twice. Whereas Actress is the only place at SAG where TAR can win.

A actually thought I was seeing Elvis LIVE!!!- ¢THE WHALE?? Still cant believe it. ACADEMY PLEASE GET IT RIGHT. NEVER saw a movie more than once (im a theater goer) Saw Elvis ,30 times my friend 41 times! MY neighbors 6 + 10 times respectively. THE WHALE? Once was too much. I'm predicting EEAAO for SAG and PGA. However, I wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't do well with the preferential ballot and something else wins PGA.

Love these predix, and all things considered, they're dead-on. In the interest of Interesting, would love a total upend at SAG, across the board, which is not likely to occur. Doesn't the Academy award "comeback narrative" instead of choosing the best performance..? Because Fraser's role in "The Whale" is nothing compared to Butler's. Sitting in a fat suit on the couch with sad eyes for almost 3 hours of a terrible movie (which is why it has no nominations for the film of the year, directing and even screenplay) is within the power of every second actor in Hollywood and we see similar random fat suit roles every year during the award season. Butler gave LIFETIME PERFOMANCE, he did not play, he was Elvis on the screen and revived the image of the King for new generations now, he nailed his voice, dancing, manners and most importantly he found true soul of Elvis Presley, no one can repeat what Austin did. And the random fat suit role of Fraser will be forgotten by everyone after Oscar.

I don't think Top Gun will win both MPSE awards. In the last 5 years, a movie has not won both Foley and ADR. I guess keep Top Gun winning both and you'll for sure get one right.

Just saw "The Whale" last night. I didn't enjoy watching Fraser trying to get off the couch, wheeze, and sweat bullets for 2 and 1/2 hours. It didn't make me cry, it made me want to take a shower at 2 am.

Not everyone falls head over heels w EEAAO. I watched it in cinema last summer, before all these award hits even in the radar. At two-thirds I got bored & started wondering how this movie was going to end ? Seems to be meandering over and over. The movie didn’t impress me except Michelle delivers a great performance, she anchors the movie. Given all these noms and wins and film tl passion, I went back to watch a 2nd time recently. In between I watched a few KZbin clips on “why this is so great”. Still emerge unconvinced. Best directing, screenplay, editing ?? Even score, prod design and costume ??? Their recent DGA, ADG wins are from their fellow practitioners. So they must have appreciate sth I fail to see. All these predictions are all about a “sweep” … Sigh. I actually was relieved that BAFTA gives the rest of us a break.

I wouldn't underestimated Angela Bassett for supporting actress. She is winning the Oscar. I could see a upset win in the best actress category at Sags with either Viola Davis or Danielle Deadwyler winning. Brendan Fraser could win the Sag for Actor. Why are they acting like Black Panther Wakanda Forever didn't make any money at the box office.

I don’t get the hype of Top Gun. People have talked abt it as an alt BP winner but it hasn’t won any BP till date has it? Tech wins yes, BP…. I don’t see justification or precedence.

Honestly people who are like ohhhh idk about if EEAAO will win are full of shit. It's been clear for MONTHS that it's getting SAG ensemble and also, at this point, PGA. BAFTA loved All Quiet above all else as evidenced in shortlists and nominations, and the Navalny win reinforces my thoughts that as a purely european voting body, there was a widespread sentiment of anti-war. Banshees was clearly second with screenplay and two actors and british film and Elvis in third with Actor, makeup, costumes and Casting. Seems like EEAAO was more of a filler in most categories for them. BUT America is very different and I will say it: it is 100% winning SAG Ensemble, PGA, Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. Like the writing's on the wall already without all that is left and it has been for a long time. There are a lot of unclear categories still that have potential to be excting but those named are simply not and have been clrear for a long time. I enjoy you 2's discussions cause you're very reasonable and dont just sound like 2 stans who are just wanting for 1 thing to win and everything else is bad and an upset and blabla. I like the objectivity while still having your own personality.

The Whale is definitely polarizing, but EEAAO has been steamrolling through this awards season, and has a lot of American support. I think its only competition is All Quiet On the Western Front and (maybe) Banshees, but I don’t think it’s close. It’s not just these guys predicting EEAAO. It’s literally everyone. It’s kinda undeniable atp.
