Exactly, this whole situation makes me sick. Not sure what kind of horrible mom lets her child out of her sight in public, let alone, allows him to get inside a wild animal's enclosure!!! And the fact that this beautiful, sensitive gorilla had to lose his life. I imagine that the handlers were devastated, since they raise these animals as babies and spend so much time with them. So incredibly tragic.

Also like when a lion is stalking you through tall weeds it just means that they're playing hide and, go seek. I personally think it's all just a huge misunderstanding with the gorilla is literally dragging the child across the man made concrete ground by the hand while gripping it with 30 pounds of force. @@unknownmasksw2serialirious580 that's really not that bad considering what could have happened, tbh. Worst case scenario gorilla mauls the child and rips him in half. Child would have gotten over it in 5 minutes if the worst he had was sore leg and water up his nose.

Not true, Most animals in modern zoos are pretty happy where they are. For many of the smaller animals, their enclosures aren’t much smaller than their range would be in the wild. Animals do not have the concepts of “freedom” or “captivity” like we do: if an animal is warm, fed, socialized and entertained, it is happy. Zoos nowadays have roomy enclosures and animal enrichment programs, where animals are given puzzles and new smells to keep it interesting

Then if he was protecting him, how do you get it away from him and let the monkey know it’s safe. Just his pulling of the boy could have fractured or broken something because of how strong they are. Far more ways this was going to end with a dead monkey then not. The blames with the mother. I mean if this was such an easy thing to pull off we’d have kids falling in on a weekly basis. And, yes, the parents are at fault bcz I don't care if you say they were watching him, how do you explain at all what the boy was doing so close to the edge in the first place?? Absolutely...the fault of a mother who should know to keep an eye on children while at a tempting zoo. I remember some mothers of another culture who didn't realize that a 2-year old baby had fallen out of a window while they were engaged in their chatter. They insisted that they had turned their heads for a second; but it took longer than a second for the toddler to crawl to the window and fall out. I know from experience woman's mind goes into time warp when she is focused on something else. When that happens, the child takes advantage of the break and begins to explore.

I understand everything everybody is feeling in this comment section but the fact of the matter is that we cannot afford to risk a human being's life for an animal. Yes, we could've used tranquilizers in place of deadly bullets and that's our fault. Humans get especially nervous when a kid is involved, ya know.

My friend visited the silverbacks in East Africa in the forest, in the wild, no barriers and they were as gentle as one can imagine. 98% herbivores. The silverback was just a foot away and did nothing. He then went to the guide he sees everyday picked him up and gently wrestled with him. My friend said all they wanted to do was play. Dream of visiting them one day.
