The draw distance method also impacts targeting pods. The zoom optics on the A10c Lightning pod are so good, I actually find it easier to spot targets from 25 mi away vs within 10 due to trees etc

Guys ... it's KZbin remember, Chroma Subsampling 4:2:0 - the viewers of this video will see ~2 times less detail than on the monitor it was made. Different terrain and world objects probably have their own type specifis visibility range (aka draw distance, aka far clip) - You can see some of it in 7:25 spot but as the camera moves vertical it goes in and out, that shuld be Chroma Subsampling at work IMO, makes things pop-in and out, this surely won't be game engine, as he's moving forward, once getting into the visibility range it's not going to pop out anymore.

This is My biggest problem in the su 25t. Seeing, ID-ing, slewing the sensor on target and firing on ground targets is almost impossible for me. I usually only see them when the AA opens fire.. And this is with targets marked on the map. This is with no track IR.

It’s a long known problem with the DCS engine. Those of us who are playing in any other resolution other than 1920x1080 are “punished” for doing so. It really is a shame as DCS looks absolutely stunning in 4K. Really hoping ED does something to address this but they don’t really seem interested in doing that as it has been an issue for years now. That said, I would LOVE to see you a similar video on a 4K screen. I think you might be surprised.

Can you link to some raw PNG examples of the issue so I can see for myself, and ofcourse you can't base any of that on youtube videos, only RAW RGB, I did browse some forum threads some time ago but forgot. I think they're probably working on a dynamic long-term solution that'll work with a number of resolutions and may take time to do it right.

I believe this is no longer an issue as of version 2.9.1. According to the changelog they improved the spotting dots system so it works at higher resolutions.

KZbin compression makes it literally impossible to see from 10nm even if the game is paused. 1440p or 4k would help with higher bitrate.

I can't see him until 9:40, on a full sized monitor at 1080p. Whatever happens between the game, the recording and what youtube does nothing is visible at the indicated spot until that point.

I know this video is 4 years old and might not be fully relevant anymore, but most other games have found ways to not punish players that want to play with higher graphics fidelity. I shouldn’t need to turn my settings down in order to find a target from above at only around a mile away.

Cap, does any of this change with 1080P, 1440P, or 4K? What about refresh rate? Will refresh rate make any of this easier to see?

I find 1440 same as 1080. Never tried 4k. 30-60hz doesnt make any diff to me, but by all means try it.

Cap, stills rendered as video is still video. You might be lucky and get a glimpse, but it does not necessarily make it better. You're still compressing video, and the compression is the same between frames if the input image is the same. Of course, there is a lot more to it than this, but when you go off about what you THINK, instead of consulting actual science, you're looking quite foolish. So to everyone watching this not seeing what Cap is seeing, it's because of video compression, mainly on youtube's part. If you can distinguish individual pixels on your screen, you _should_ be able to see it, but you don't, because the video is compressed. It's likely not your 'old eyes' unless you're on a small screen.

Another great video Cap!!! I will say I caught it finally when it was 3 pixels wide. The video compression from KZbin destroys any pixel recognition before this (for me at least). The people saying they couldn't locate the tank was because of the compression in the video, not because they are blind. I don't think there is any way around this unfortunately.

A problem with KZbin that I’ve known for many years is that no matter the quality settings KZbin’s compression does terrible things to pixels.

I think KZbin use some kind of "fuzzy logic" when reproducing vids. I zoomed in on my iMac and all pixels were the same green..... I can see it at 10:22 mics. Best, Pete.
