I have a Q: what is the difference in meaning between "It was raining when i left the house" and " it had been raining for 2 hrs when i left the house". as i understood in both examples it is was still raining when i left the house, so whats the difference, is it just the duration of time mentioned in the 2nd example? He said that "It had been raining for 2 hours when I left the house" brings the sense that it was still raining when he left while at the other way it brings the sense that the raining had stopped when he left the house.
