Just came across this video. Wow. I can remember running home as fast as my little feet would carry me from school when I was a kid in the late 60's to make sure I never missed a second of the original Ultraman. The only other Ultra I really got into was Mebius. Great times, thanks for the vid.

@@UltramanExplained It really never caught on to any great degree here in the US unfortunately. Today I think it's better liked because of easier access to the shows. I remember in 3rd grade we had a Japanese girl in our class with a huge catalogue type book on Ultraman and I remember her telling me how big the show was over there. Pretty amazing. Today I have both Japanese and English dub on DVD.

The reason why Ultra 7 doesn't have a biotic senser/color timer is because his beam lamp doubles as one,plus the metal strips on the upper part of his chest just happen to be a solar energy collar that grants him unlimited power with exeption of extreme cold

Ultraman Gaia and Agul called Life Gauge which same as color timer, unlike other ultramans, both Gaia and Agul need power and strength without worrying three minutes, according for Ultraman Wiki, life gauge was from crystal of Mana from earth itself.

And as for Nexus he is an Ultra that has "Energy Core" and able to generates his own light. 3-minute rule only apply to him when he used the Meta-Field other than that he's pretty much immortal. So is there any other unique Ultra that can survive without light?

This is spot on actually. However, you forgot another exception, Ultraman Nexus Anphans Form/The Next(maybe)/Noa's energy core. The energy core is limited to the Deunamist's energy as the injuries sustained from them carry on through their Ultra form/human forn and vice versa

Father of ultra is kinda like a damn Light battery. Im guessing he's got like huge reserves of light energy, He like supercharged Mebuis from empty to full and didn't ever start blinking himself even after fighting Jashirin. Maybe that lil scepter he has serves the purpose of storing xtra light energy? Anyway the color timer concept back when i first seen Tiga as a kid turned me onto the shows. The whole sense of Urgency, to race against the clock to get the job done.

I would also like to point out that in the original design for Ultraman, they do not have a color timer. Meaning they could fight as long as they want on Earth without running out of energies. However due to budget reasons Tsuburaya decided to added a color timer to Ultraman so 1) Ultraman will have limited screen time on each episode, just so the Ultraman rubber suit wouldn't be worn out for being used for too long during filming, 2) every time Ultraman fights their life would be at stake, adding the additional intensity for the fight. The designer of Ultraman Toru Narita opposed this idea at first since he thought it destroys the flow of his Ultraman design, but later on he agreed to add it as long as the initial color for the color timer stays blue. Now the Shin Ultraman trailer is out, we can clearly see that it doesn't have a color timer anymore. Seems like Hideaki Anno wants to bring Ultraman back to its original roots once again.

If you look at the ending credits of movies from the 1980's onward, you'll notice that a "color timer" is mentioned. However, this job may've existed back in the 1960's, since the name of it was given to Ultraman's chest light. It would be nice to know more about this history.

Ive noticed Dark Ultras don't seem to be limited by the 3 min rule. I can't remember one time a dark ultras timer started to blink from the limited light energy. Id figure this would be because they're a warrior of darkness. Ultraman Hikari, never seemed to be burdened by a 3 min limit either in his blade knight dark form, where his timer was covered entirely by armor i would guess.

I was very curious and surprised at Nexus/Next's color timer due to its design. Upon form change, he gains a color timer that wasn't there on top of his default base form color timer, if you could call it that. I'm surprise at the lack of mention of Ace, as he's my favorite of the Showa ultra brothers. Ace has a head lamp as well but it serves more...well you alreayd know about it. There are still a few details you tend to miss in videos but you hit the important points still.

Then Next/Nexus/Noa is... uniquely different compared to any other Ultra. He is said to be the first Ultra existed born from a supernova and is immortal hence the fans calls him the God of Ultra. The timer in his Junis form is actually a crystal and it acted the same as a color timer. Unlike the V-shaped Energy Core that tell "Deunamist" that his/her life is in danger while the Color Timer on top of his Energy Core was actually more meant to be used inside the Meta Field to tell how much time he have but it still act the same as any other Color Timer.

I thought each of them would have one from birth either on the chest, which is most of them would put on or on the forehead like Seven... Speaking of Seven, I never knew about Seven's is not color timer, but a beam lamp... But in the movie where they introduce his son, Zero, Seven beam lamp act like color timer (Mega Monster Battle movie)... Another thing that confuse me... If the color timer is a choice and surgically implanted... If that's the case... How about Geed? He never gone through any process of receiving the color timer. When he transform for the 1st time he already has one... Sorry to ask a lot...

In the original Ultraman, the Ultraman chose to save his host Hayata's life because he thought he was responsible for Hayata death. In order to do so Ultraman merged himself with Hayata and gave his own life energy to Hayata. That's where the human-Ultraman fusion originally came from, as it goes on it just kinda becomes a tradition for the series.
