Here at US, you sit for Fundamentals of Engineering(FE) exam after you graduate either bachelors, masters or phd in engineering. You then get the EIT designation which means Engineer in Training. FE is a 6hrs long exam. After you pass it, you then work under a licensed professional engineer for 4 years then you apply to sit for professional engineer exam which is an 8hrs long exam. You will also need 5 professional engineers (PE) to recommend you to be licensed. You will then use the credential PE in your emails and business cards. Every state has its own board that administers professional licensures and engineering firm licensure. There is also comity licensure if you are already license PE in a different state.
