I would have loved to see a Darkstalkers game on the CPS3

You are an arcade master. I love these tutorials. The encryption on CPS3 was so damn good, I remember it took MAME almost 10 years to decrypt the algorithm they used. It's a shame they abandoned this hardware, but I can see why. It probably cost WAY too much to make this and the Naomi hardware was much cheaper and easier to maintain.

to me it was weird just how amazing and (for the most part) easy the CPS2 hardware was...and then for Capcom to mess up and abandon the CPS3 hardware

Really nice breakdown, I found this much easier to understand than some of the wiki pages I've seen.

Great video! It took me back in time. I was heavily into collecting arcade boards about 15 years ago but I could never convince myself to get into CPS-3 back then, too much of a hassle (although I was always tempted by Warzard, which sadly never received a home port). Another problem I remember is that the CPS-3 is very susceptible to static electricity, more so than other arcade systems. Oh, and about switching games, most collectors I knew did not even bother to do so, they just kept a dedicated motherboard for each game. :)

thanks luke. man, just imagine is Capcom didn't abandon the CPS3.

moomert1 Obtaining hardware probably wouldn’t be hard. Maybe they could also sell systems to the consumer market as a D.I.Y project or something like a console too maybe.

No, it's criminal what bullshit its design was
@niceguy606 жыл бұрын
Dude they LITERALLY abandoned cps3 and went back to developing on the cps2, the last games released on capcom hardware was released on the cps2 The cps2 was to capcom what the Naomi and MVS was to their respective companies. BTW you can easily replace the volume pot on your cps3 mobo, I did so for over 30 boards. What you should fear is that huge custom PPU failing which results in character/spirite ram failure not the result of bad ram
@joseluki6 жыл бұрын
Probably because there was a biggest market of CPS-2 machine owners than CPS-3, so releasing a game for CPS-2 was smarter market wise.

I have all the CPS 2-3 setup i MAME and running nice with retroarch but I still admire the original hardware of the time. I still want to collect it.

Can you use something like the Pandora 4 box with a CPS 3?

No

Thanks for the reply! Seems like they went backwards on this one. I was looking into getting a CPS3 machine, but after watching this vid, it seems like one should stick to CPS II boards. I'd really only want one of these if I had the ability to hook up a multi-game unit to the board.

Uh, that thing you said about ford at 7:00 ? I just had that happen to a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The only place to get a *new* high voltage battery is ford themselves, and they'll only sell it to you installed due to safety (it's 350V DC), and they charge labor to install it. Gotta be careful about those "3 year or 36,000 mile basic / 5 year or 60,000 mile powertrain" warranties... Especially when it's so easy to get to 150k miles before 5 years is up... (So nobody complains: Yes, it is certainly possible to acquire a used battery off ebay, and carefully install it yourself, then properly reset all the computers with a code reader and ForScan, but that is not a "new" battery. Remarkably, ford does still carry a new stock of them.)
@PhirePhlame5 ай бұрын
I can't speak to the legality of the suicide battery, but I do know a bit about the context that gave rise to it: bootleg copies of arcade games ran _rampant_ back in the day, often with the original publisher's branding obscured or outright replaced. Sometimes the gameplay'd even be modified, for better or (more likely) for worse. These bootleg hacks could have, and probably had, affected people's perceptions of the real games. Capcom in particular had already been burned by this practice - just _look_ at the MAME database, I think SF2 has more bootleg versions in that software list than official revisions! Particularly infamous is the so-called "rainbow" bootleg.

Wow, and all this mess and, illegal also for sure, just to prevent some piracy ? Fools.

Well, there was a big market of counterfeit arcade boards when CPS-1, so that made it extra difficult.

iphone? what is this device you call an iPhone? wait is that some sort of Samsung Galaxy impersonation device? all kidding aside, I see your point of view.
@jameslewis26356 жыл бұрын
Why don't you just replace the faulty volume pots. They are pretty easy to get hold of and if they are of a fairly standard design there will only be 3 connections. Most of the time only two of these are used. Also could you not just have the 4 x 128 + 2 x 64 to run all the games?

Many wish for a Darkstalkers to be ressurected once more but what most dont understand is that it just was not that big of a hit here in North America. I believe it too because the Darkatalkers collection was only released in Japan and Darkstalkers Ressurection wasn't commercially successful but I only think it wasn't because of what it offered.

About the simm cards, They are ram. You could probable find a first gen pentium pc and transplant the ram to the cps3 board. The fact that I am not that familiar with the cps3 arcade system doesn't mean that I am 100% right, but you should really give it a shot. BTW do not try to mix and match different brands or capacities.
