That's no bug, it actually prevents beat syncers from unintentionally jumping out of the sync. Everything through Pro DJ Link has one master from which key and/or beat sync can be performed. The "lock" is there when masters auto swap based on faders/EQ or manual swap over. Easily to overcome. The poster of this video isn't running the latest firmware either, it clearly displays a warning what to do exactly (put tempo to exact one + displays a grey additional reference one). Bottom line is Grimes doesn't understand the equipment properly. BPMs also don't magically "double" on CDJs. That's an error done during analysis. If one relies on that, they better check/correct where needed and lock the analysis. Shows clearly she gave her set to somebody who threw it in Rekordbox and relied on track analysis without verifying anything or using incorrect analysis settings. So yes, she has no clue how the equipment and software works, apparently she heavily relies on the technology not being able to simply beat match, and no it's not a software bug.

the bug I am describing is that it's not taking halftime BPMs into consideration for the next most logical pitch adjustment. that it seems to be 'locked' is just a symptom of the glitch because the range has to be set to wide and the actual values are so far from each other that it makes it almost impossible to get out of it. its not an auto analyse bug, its a glitch inside the players. In Export mode and in Performance mode the double bpm glitch is not happening while syncing but on the players. My tracks are analysed correctly and the beatgrid is in place. the problem is inside the player, not considering halftime correctly for a useful pitch adjustment. just imagine you want a hip hop acapella with 90 bpm on a dnb track with 175 bpm. the software would adjust just a few % to get it right, but the player will almost double the tempo for no reason.

@@eskei83 if it's not an analysis thing you're trying to describe from Grimes's botched set, how is it that it "worked' all of a sudden the second weekend for the same prepared set ? Been playing on CDJs for +15 years I've never seen that kind of behavior not in export mode, not in HID nor on USB export. Then again I don't use beat sync, maybe on a very rare occasion. Mixing a 90 into 175 works perfectly on wide mode which allows +-100%. Need more ? No can do, know your equipment. If you mix such a big bpm difference and can't get it right audibly, use the phase meter instead of wave form. Or easier, use a (live) sampler instead like the DJS-1000 ... I double checked on my 3000's what your showing in the video, try updating your firmware, that's not what mine show.

you should learn to watch, listen and read before you type brother. all you said might be correct but has nothing to do with the context of this video. Grimes had obviously wrong analyzed tracks or tracks with halftime/double time values. and she was using sync. and because of the glitch described in the video while using sync, she got tracks double the tempo because the sync bug on the CDJs is speeding tracks up by up to 100% this behavior is a bug imo because the proper way to sync tracks that have such a high bpm difference is to consider halftime into it and just pitch the tempo for the smallest pitch percentage possible. I even talked to PioneerDJ about it and they said that the behavior of the player is indeed not ideal and may have caused the high bpm problems between one and another track. sure - she could have been prepared better but the thing is … if you try to sync two tracks with halftime & double time tempo in Export mode it will pitch it to the closest percentage. on CDJ it will pitch to the absolute bpm value. it doesn’t have the same behavior within their own eco system and that’s why it’s considered a glitch. if you don’t use sync you might have never noticed it and that’s understandable when you’re a DJ with 15 years of experience. But there are people out there using sync and the way it behaves when half or double time tunes are been synced could be improved.

The only thing that made rekordbox great for DJ’s through the years was that it hi lights the tracks that work with the current song playing (work with = in key). Which made for DJ’s who sounded better harmonically than serato DJ’s who didn’t understand music theory, or didn’t use the Camelot. Well, a decade has gone by since I found out about Camelot. Pretty much everyone uses it now. So there’s audibly no difference between a serato DJ and a rekordbox DJ. Just delete the program already AT.

i found out that you can "un-sync" by pressing the tempo reset button next to the pitch fader, but if you do it and sync is still on it will drop the other track as well. the behaviour is super strange. imo it should not ignore halftime tempo tracks and sync to the closest phase matching pitch percentage, like it does in all of their dj apps on computers (incl. Rekordbox Export mode for USBs)

It’s also easily avoided many different ways. Two being if you can manually mix whether that’s beatmatching or even quick drop mixing. Even if you encounter this issue you should be able to correct it quickly. Like many have said disengage sync and manually moving the temp to proper level works as well. Relying only beatmatch and improperly uploaded files is on the artist. Dont feel sorry for someone getting paid big $ and not being able to do the simplest tasks.

In Rekordbox, couldn’t she have turned down the volume on one track, unclicked sync on both tracks, and then have used the Tempo fader to go above/below the synced Tempo value and then slide back to the desired Tempo on the track out of whack? Seems to me what I did in an instance with sync gone wrong. I avoid sync know all I can, but sometimes if track is slipping or don’t like how my loop is looping I’ll use it.

You can shift sync and cancel it on most controllers or just reload the song. Most DJ software will allow you to lock the sync too. It’s more of a rookie DJ mistake. You learn this stuff after a few gigs of messing up.

you simply don't get it brother... the issue is that their sync has a glitch causing trouble even when you beat matched perfectly or you had correct analysed files. if you have to correct analysed files, but one is considered halftime and the other one is double time and sync is enabled, it doubles the tempo of the halftime track, where it only adjust to the closest matching pitch value. if the sync on the players wouldnt be so glitchy, even doubled bpms would have worked with the sync. i am not defending her, she should have been prepared better and know how to dj without sync. but i still think pioneer dj should also do their homework and not have such a bug in their players causing such a train wreck... in their software it works but not on their players, so i consider it a glitch/bug.

Its not a bug, the dj should actually check if the tracks are half-tempo or original tempo before playing it. Rekordbox its a good tool for that. i agree with you to a certain point. the preparation is key and super important. but why is it that if you load two tracks with half/double time in Rekordbox (export or performance mode, doesnt matter) and Sync works perfectly fine and tracks wont be sped up or slowed down like crazy, but on their player it goes crazy when hitting sync? its inconsistent between their preparation software and their flagship players and that is something they should fix in my opinion.

Um.. You seriously don’t know how this works? When you turn on beat sync, it will match the speed of the master deck to this deck, but when you turn it off it won’t go back to the original tempo automatically. This is on purpose so that if you turn it off by mistake your track won’t go out of sync. To revert back to original tempo you have to touch the pitch fader and pitch up / down manually while beat sync is turned off. Wtf? Nobody knows this?

I know how it works bro. the thing is that the way it syncs those two tracks together isn’t very smart. the two tracks have basically the same tempo but their bpms are half/double. so if the sync on the players would be so smart like sync on their rb software, it wouldn’t pitch one track up by almost +100%, instead it would just made the closest pitch adjustment to bring both tracks in phase. 2 or 3 % in my case. but the players sync to absolute bpm values pitching up to double the speed. that’s the bug/glitch I’m talking about. and the thing with the glitch is that it changes the pitch fader to wide, as you can see in the video and you have to go back soooo much that the fader is not long enough to even do it or if you catch it up, the fader will be in such a weird position that the track will be super slow or fast and sounds wild bringing it back to normal. Overall it’s really confusing and not intuitive. especially because it works different in their Rekordbox software. So I believe there should be a firmware update or something to consider halftime tracks into the tempo sync on the players. Not only in export mode to avoid such drastic pitch changes while syncing.

If you analyze the track in rekordbox and it got analyzed with the wrong bpm (happens often when it’s not a straight 4 kicks on the beat dance track), whoever is analyzing it should catch it and correct it by entering the bpm manually.. As for your pitch comment - yeah you don’t know how it works. The pitch fader is absolute, so if it was on +1% before you hit beat sync, then pitch went to -200% because of the beat sync, you disable beat sync and move the pitch fader very slightly, and the track will go back to -1%

@@yoannp.8511 cool 😎 same here, +20y in the game as well. the video is about a glitch on the players that caused some of her problems. She should have prepared her set better, no doubt but I still think pioneer should fix their equipment so stuff like this don’t happen.

@@eskei83 I agree with you, the real problem is that everyone wants and can mix with the SYNC button without actually listening to the music and know how to mix 2 disks with the ears. The organization of the festival was also not professional, no one came to help her.
