On this adventure we head into the hills of Central Oregon to hunt for new Agate, Jasper and Petrified Wood Deposits. The wind was howling all day and an intense storm soaked us on the way out. Lots of cool finds.

The large one @4:00 looks just like Graveyard Point. Nice. And the large jasper at the beginning of the video is beautiful.

Yeah I've found a few now at this spot that resemble Graveyard. Can't wait to get that one on the saw!

That's crazy how many seams and chunks of agate are just laying around out there! I really loved that big jasper you left behind it was great quality. Those bubbly tube agates are out of this world! 🎉

Hi Jay, My wife & I just started rock hounding 3 yrs ago, we're 75 and it's been a great activity to do together. We watch a lot of YT and we really enjoy your channel and we have really learned a lot by watching your videos; thank you! We live in Terrebonne and bought the OR Rock Hound Map and the 2 books about the OR sites. We really enjoy the Ochocos, Bear CK areas, east on hwy 20, & the Steens & McDermott areas. We built a pond & stream on our property by our gazebo and display a lot of rocks around it. It's fun to go out and walk around it and admire and reminisce the trips. Thanks, Tom & Tye

That's awesome. Glad you are enjoying the videos! I hear the Polka-dot Agate mine is reopened out in Ashwood. That's another fun one to check out if you get the chance. I like the idea of the pond! Might have to do that myself.

Hi Jay, I've been wanting to go there, and also explore the Ashwood area, sounds interesting. The water feature was a fun project, I did it myself, and now it's a great place to put all our rocks, the sound of the water in the stream and falling into the pond is very peaceful, and we can hear it from our bedroom window at night. Hey, quick question, in a couple of your last 5 or 6 videos where you're finding the wonderful pet wd pieces you've mentioned a couple times about rattlesnakes, does that area have an exceptional number of snakes or is it just typical Central OR?
@itslattice41955 ай бұрын
This area definitely has a high concentration of rattlers. Deschutes River canyon north of Madras and Crooked River vicinity have a pretty good population. I've stepped over a few. I was reaching down for a big agate one day and a big rattlesnake let me knownthat was not a good move to make!

Hey Jay, Thanks for the heads up, it's getting to be that time of year to start keeping our eyes open. We very seldom have run into them, but we walk heavy and keep our eyes open. Thanks, Tom & Tye

Might have to do that. We were on a mission to explore and keep the load light that day so I left behind some nice ones!

Thanks for taking us along. I have come across that woody looking texture as well on seam agates. I'm inclined to think it's 'slickensiding', extrusion or movement somehow or other when the rocks were still viscous or reheated.
@itslattice41956 ай бұрын
Thank you for pointing that out. Over the years I've found many that look kinda like wood but obviously aren't. Surprised I haven't heard of slickensides before!

Hey there Jay, was wondering what happened to you. Weather and work make rockhounding difficult. Those that persevere gain the best rewards. Sweet agate and jasper locale. Always nice to have your son along with you on an excursion. My daughter and I are heading to one of my secret locations on no name mountain next to secret creek located in the hidden valley. Time for another Rock fix! Keep on hounding and we'll keep watching. In

At 4:51 it appears to be chalcedony filling an open space created by a fault. The slickensides are the clue.
@itslattice41956 ай бұрын
One other person commented about slickensides. Never heard of that before which surprises me after so many years hunting agates. Makes perfect sense.

Hi Bob. I don't currently. I used to do ebay. Mostly crystals and slabbed agates from old collections.

Looks like you're on my land. Just to the left of that chunk of BLM land right by newsome creek bridge.
@itslattice41955 ай бұрын
I wish! Your land looks so good. I'm on the BLM side. I do go all the way to the edge though. This was the northern edge of the first quadrant just south of the fence with the posted signs. If I'm mistaken somehow, let me know. I would gladly trade fence work or cash to hike around on your side though!
