That was definitely entertaining with all the different designs and colors. Even my 3 year old sat and watched the whole video with me! She normally will ONLY watch Cocomellon so that’s a big deal! She even got mad when I had to pause it for a minute. 😂 Also, you should use a vibratory tumbler on some of them. It works great on my Malawi agates.

@agatedad I would maybe look into dop sticks. For the ones that actually have a face, and not geodes, you can apply the stick to the cut surface face, and grind down the back flat. That's also just a good way to polish small stones on wheels like you have on your cab king. They'd make good cabs/pendants. Whether you want to work then is up to you tho. I'd say as cool as most of them are, you could definitely sell them as materials to a metalsmith or jeweler

Sellers can fix the size issue very easily. Just add a ruler for scale with inches and centimeters in one of the pictures. I don't know why more sellers don't do this. It's like rule #1 for selling minerals online. Also, thanks for sharing the cutting process. Agates are always full of surprises! There were definitely some neat ones in that lot.

I bought a bunch of rocks from China, and for the most part, they were OK. But I did notice that whoever's hands were in the pictures, were the size of a child's hand compared to mine. So the rocks were a LOT smaller than the pictures looked IN EVERY CASE! But they really skunked me on SURYA AGATES. I don't know if they are a real breed of agates or not, but IN EVERY CASE the pictures were jacked up and didn't look like the real deal. The pictures showed bright bands of orange, yellow and red, but the real stones were dull and mostly brown. My son thinks the pics were taken under UV light, but this was NOT disclosed in the listings. I had bid on quite a few and bid fairly high, trusting that the pics were accurate. I did put up a fuss and got partial refunds from 2 dealers, but I quit bidding because you never know what you are going to get. I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to be hoodwinked. Their excuses were pathetic! The pics were taken after they were put through a sonic washer, so that made the pics look brighter. And Oh, when they are polished, they'll look brighter. Really? Plus they were selling Cinnabar in both powdered and mineral form without any warnings whatsoever. And it's ILLEGAL to ship it in America. If you don't know, Cinnabar is MERCURY SULFIDE, an extremely toxic poison. As for your agates, I'm not surprised that they were so small. And dyed! I would ask for a partial refund on the deceptive size alone! But I do have an idea for you. Keep in mind that I don't have any polishing equipment myself, but it seems that they would be good candidates for the flat lap. Or a dremel. And they would make lovely earrings! I especially love the geodes that look like hearts!

I wouldn't be so disappointed. These are some of my favorite agates in the world. I know exactly where they come from, and I would be *extremely* surprised if those were dyed. They go by 3 different trade names, but come from the same volcano along the border of China & Mongolia. They are mostly collected from a location in Xuanhua, Hebei, China. The smaller ones are much more affordable, but the price rises exponentially with the size of the nodule. They are commonly known as; - Bloody Battle Agates - Chinese Fighting Blood Agates - Warring State Agates I like to make tiny slices & turn them into earrings & small pendants.

So I’m a hobby jeweler, and there’s quite a few really nice pieces in here. My recommendations would be some wire-wrapping on some of them, and do earrings, keychains, and you could even do chunky rings on some of them. If you still have any of the broken pieces, and they look interesting or have maybe some tiny crystals, you can put those into tiny glass bottles with some moss or sand from Lake Superior or something like that and make earrings or necklaces. There are some that would make really nice cabochons if you can manage; 16:52 is much my vote for that, if you can keep some of the dark matrix on it, it’d be really striking. I don’t know what goes into stone cutting, though, as my lapidary knowledge is minuscule.

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder! I loved these tiny little guys. I’ve always been drawn to miniatures and have a shadow box with miniatures from all over the world. I never tire of seeing them. And I love rock hounding, so the two combined is heaven. I live in a relatively small space so I have small containers such as baskets, pottery, ceramic, wood, etc around on my coffee or end tables, on bookshelves, my nightstand or wherever, that hold my rocks, sea shells, and other interesting small things. I love to move them around and I will pull various rocks out just to examine and enjoy and marvel at. These little guys are perfect for that. Even the duds were fascinating and beautiful to me. They can also be used in art pieces such as accenting on driftwood or sea shell displays, even in fairy gardens. I put some sea shells and rocks in flower pots with plants and enjoy the flowers and rocks at the same time. Share these on your Etsy store. You might be surprised at the ones you think are duds, others see as miraculous and incredibly beautiful. I did. Keep up the great work.

I think that the pretty and interesting small agates (ok, teensy weensy) could be sold or given to artists who wrap stones in silver or gold wire - some can make beautifully intricate designs from the wire as well as a lovely piece of jewelry, such as a pendant or earrings. Since you have two halves you can EASILY turn them into matching earrings. Use epoxy to stabilize them if they have voids and if they're thinly sliced and coated with epoxy you won't have to do much polishing (the clear ones would really pop if thinly sliced) and then add holes for the earrings, they're small enough to not weigh too much and with the amount you have you could easily open an earring booth or sell them online. Just a thought.

Wow, that was excruciating to watch! So many little, tiny micro-agates! Yeah, some of the online places that sell rocks aren't where you should get them! Unless it's a place that actually deals in them! You had some sweet ones, though! They would be cool pendants or earrings after they are polished! I don't know how you could polish them, though? You can't use a dobstick because you wouldn't be able to get the wax off of the shell! With them being so small, your hands would be crippled within a few minutes of holding them! A flat lap would be the best way to polish them! Keep us updated on what you do, and good luck! You could keep a bunch in your pocket and hand them out to kids as you see them!😂 Thanks for sharing, Taylor!

The one at 1:55 was interesting. Any idea what the polka dots are? The geodes are surprisingly good looking. They'd make nice jewelry. I like the one at 8:30 the best. I can see how polishing such small ones would be a pain. I think a number of the less interesting could be funky buttons. Grind the backs smooth, give both sides a nice polish, but not a mirror finish, then drill two holes for sewing.

So many of the little Chinese agates were sooo cute!! I agree, they could be used in jewelry. I'd like several of them just for a small collection.

When I was in China I saw some shops in my city selling small unpolished agate with holes for bracelets, but I rarely saw dyed ones. There are some of them with green jasper at the surface, and might cause some green powder when you cut it. And I think some of the red or yellow ones from the video might be digged in Hebei Provence.

I liked to buy the small ones for jewelry making.I bought a few pounds of very small agate gravel from a friend of mine, and every so often I'll burn through a bunch.I love the surprises!I also have tiny thundereggs that look and behave like these agates. We are only limited by our imagination as to what we can do with them. Some of the crystally ones would make nice micro mounts, too.

A batch of those in a frame or compartmented box that would hang on the wall or fit on a door would look lovely.

When I found some small rocks that I like I cover the part I want to shine with UV nail polish. Only clear base and clear top coat. You can apply it after degreasing the stone only where you want it to look polished, it remains fluid until you expose it to the UV lamp. It has a pleasing smoothing effect and you can remove it and reapply easily in the future.

Great video thank you for doing all that cutting in the heat. Some of those rocks weren't small because they revealed galaxies - beautiful

If you be willing to polish some of those they would be lovely charm necklaces. (Even the ones you called duds..I would wear them polished up) Your amazing to watch and I really enjoy your laughter and excitement. Keep up the great work.

Oh my goodness, some of these are just the agates of my dreams! For crafts. I make jewelry with wire-wrapped stones, and these are the ones I need the most - small, but with a beautiful pattern, with a fairly flat "hump" on the back. They are great for cute little pendants and clip earrings. Especially just like these, so tiny and at the same time paired, I can't buy them in my country (Jerusalem, Israel). Large stones with a thick hump are simply not suitable for my work, I need either double-sided cuts/tumbled or these little ones. I only have a few such cuts of small agate geodes, not paired and only one type, black and white or brownish, with a similar pattern. I don't know what country they are from, but I will definitely make either single earrings with them, or just several pendants. Yours will also be wonderful for the same kind of work I do, as well as for more complex jewelry work in copper, alpaca, etc.

For polishing I think you can tape the sand paper rough side up on a table or cutting board and rub the agates on it, probably won't even take very long considering how small they are and you can probably hold a couple at a time.
Are these ugly agates beautiful inside?!
