One of my open water students from 2018 has gone to become an instructor and now dipping his toes in to Normoxic Trimix, so was very happy to join him on his 60m dive to finish off his TXR course, and what better way with an exploratory dive off North Stradbroke Island to Cathedrals Reef - 7nm off the island, and with epic surface conditions over the weekend.
The site is a deep reef with a some ledge type structure around the 57m mark, hitting the sand at 60m with it getting down to 63 - 65m in parts.
Although the commercial fishing charters were out on the reef as well, we didn't come across much in the way of big schooling fish. There is much more to explore on this site, and very suited to dpv's. So I feel like we will be back to check out the reef in the future.
Finishing the afternoon off with a dive at Roaring Deep, however the current was no where to be seen, so was more leisurely than raging current, however a lost more life to be seen with leopard and bull sharks, and all the various reef fish
Thanks to Manta Lodge on Stradbroke island!
