@damo9706 Fish tails are for aesthetics, rounded full tails are for performance. If you mainly want to pose with your board for photos on the beach, go fish tail. If you want to shred on it, go with a full tail based off a traditional skateboard. My two cents!

@damo9706 Less weight might be the only positive thing. But it will be more fragile, worse pop, I imagine it would add flex to an area you typically want stiff to drive power from, and just be a little less secure underfoot for drop ins or tail stalls or slash grinds.

Woke up on saturday morning, saw a notification saying your new video is out and I was hyped for the weekend! Made coffee and breakfast, hit play and enjoyed the video! 😎 There’s some great skating in this one (as is in all of your videos). But the scenery makes this even greater! I find the boardslide particularly awesome, as I haven’t yet been able to land one myself. I always get wheelbite on landing. The backslide to 180 off a ledge is great. I have to try this myself. Your kickflips are legendary, people don’t appreciate how much harder it is to land one on a surfskateboard! The drop in to the bank from a rock was also awesome.👍 Hats off to your wife for doing all the camera work! Mine always gets bored and angry with me after a couple of tries. 😇 What equipment do you use, we can see her running like crazy in a shot, but the video is stable. Is it a DJI Osmo? The aerial shots were great as well.
@MarktheLandlockedSurfer2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The term for that fakie 180 off the ledge is a "half-cab" named after Steve Caballero, hard to do on a surfskate but a fun challenge! For most of the moving shots, we just used the GoPro Hero 10 - the hypersmooth stabilization does an incredible job. Don't even bother with a gimbal anymore.
@MaTiCeK2 жыл бұрын
@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer thanks, I have to try it. I can do it on flat. But from a ledge it seems much more difficult to do.
@MarktheLandlockedSurfer2 жыл бұрын
@@MaTiCeK It isn't really that bad, the only difference is you have to get the timing spot on. It is almost easier than an ollie because you don't need to travel as far: Basically the trucks you pop from only have to travel a few inches to clear the gap. With an ollie your back trucks need to move at least a board-length because you pop before your front trucks hit the edge and you need to be in the air long enough for your back trucks clear that same edge.

@DennisSattler2 жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you other than Spitfire Formula Fours are the most popular wheels in Southern California in skate parks. I happen to think the slide is a little more predictable than Bones which are pretty much ranked the second preferred brand of wheel. Spitfires have their own sound when sliding. Kinna scratchy. I would not recommend anything harder than the 97a (green label,) since it is a surfskate.

Just out of curiosity, which trick did you think wasn't safe? I actually worried I went too safe in this video and didn't push myself enough.

@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer basically any trick can go wrong. e.g. 5:27 even simple skating on the grass can throw you to side to the stairs if wheel hit some stone or hole. Just simple surf-pumping especially close to the edge of the road can go wrong. e.g 1:30 I'm doing LDP longboarding for 15 years, last 5 years I feel myself quite profi and had no incidents. I can do dancing on the board with closed eyes. ....But... 2 weeks ago I hit pavement so hard so I end up with broken elbow, because front track kingpin suddenly got broken. You never know man. Be safe. As an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5WxgpZjl6iXrKc - I've got similar hardware fail.

@@PeterFox-n2x My worst injuries have been from freak incidents like yours, like a wheel coming off of a borrowed board or a surfboard hitting me in the head. It is a sport full of risk. I don't agree with your assessment that it is stupid to do what I love while travelling. The mental health benefits I get from surfskating outweigh the injuries I have sustained. But I appreciate your concern and assure you that I am far more cautious than selectively edited video clips might suggest.

@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer yes, I got your point. I'm also skating sometimes abroad, but always wearing gloves, helmet,etc. bcs medical expenses can be high ;-)
