I lived in Hyde Park from 1960 to 1964---the area was a whole different animal back then. I was only 4 months of age until age four, but I can imagine walking the streets of Hyde Park at night was probably safer.

Within the confines of the university, it is wonderful. But if you step outside of that area, the neighborhood deteriorates into a crime-ridden ghetto. A little girl who sang at Obama's second inaugural lived in that area, just a few blocks from his home. - and she was killed in a drive-by shooting.
