Place Ville Marie top floor where your video was taken was a big deal in the 60-70's, a club called Altitude 767. My parents visited that place back then. Then it shut down for a decade or two. I worked for a bank in the building in the late 80's and took my secret lunches up there when it was abandoned. Dust everywhere, tables, chairs fallen over. It was a quiet place to eat lunch alone and see the whole city. Several years later it opened up as a club again and my siblings and I visited in the 90's. We knew the bouncer/guide to the 45th floor. Then after a couple of years it shut down. Good times. I wish I took pictures back then. Now it's what we see in your video, a beautiful, clean, airy space with a panoramic view.

Montreal is indeed a magical place in North America! Great cuisine and architecture and a chance to experience Europe sans the flight. I encourage everyone to learn about and immerse themselves in the French culture and respect it by at least learning a few horses. Contrary to some opinion, the Quebecois are very friendly and welcoming. Strol,ING any number of streets is a unique experience, and on really cold days, there is Place Ville Marie and Underground Montreal. A couple of streets to add are Rue Crescent for eating & entertainment, Rue St Denis in Vieux Montreal and of course Place Jacques Carier for street performers, food, architecture and culture. The Metro system is great - and yes the smoked meat at Schwartz'deli is magnificent - the BEST in North America. In late fall to Spring, catch Les Canadiens at the Bell Centre, and hear the bi-gual version of "O, Canada". C'est magnifique! Love the view from Mont Royal, from where the city derives its name. I would also suggest a meal, drink or high tea at Hotel Reine Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth), as well as a drive or train to Quebec City to see a smaller French encampment and the wonderful Chateau Frontenac Hotel and Dufferin Terrasse. J'aime beaucoups Montreal et QC!

Indeed. It's now called ''Au Sommet''. The restaurant ''Les enfants terribles'' with its large terrasse is the highest point to admire the city. En effet, ''Au sommet'' domine la Place Ville-Marie et son restaurant ''Les enfants terribles'' permet de sa terrasse d'admirer la cité à ses pieds, à perte de vue.

It depends if you are studying at the college (technical) or university level. Please find relevant information on the school system in Quebec. It is different from the rest of North America and more similar to European systems where there is an additional level between high school and university.

You can function in English but you would be missing on lots of activities and festivals. The province's culture and most of the politics and public services are generally in French. If you visit the rest of the province (and there are so many things to see), you will find out that pretty much everything is in French. You will always find someone bilingual to help you (and people are friendly), but it's better if you learn some basic French and manage to be functional by yourself. It's really a question of living comfortably and being integrated into the regional culture. Anyone can learn a second language when the motivation is there. And it is easier to learn when you can find people speaking the language (as well as tv shows and activities) all around you.

As a Montrealer, I'd say a very small percentage of people might be dicks, but like 90% of people will be really nice to you. Especially if you learn a couple of phrases in French like "Désolé, je ne parle pas français, parlez-vous anglais?" people will really appreciate it and will go out of their way to help you out (and believe me, you'll probably need it since everything in the city is in French, you might have a harder time navigating it if you're not used to stuff not being in English)

Learn "bonjour, merci, parlez-vous anglais?" and you have made a bridge to mostly anybody. People are friendly, and will be helpfull if you ask for help. Also everybody is bilingual, which proves that people are open. :) be nice to people and people will be nice to you
