I love videos of my home town. When used to tour these castles we used to intersperse castle s with whiskey tastings.

I once suggested to my wife that we add a prison access door to our bedroom. I was met with a resounding NO. Apparently I am not the Lord of my castle. Also no labeled "secret hiding place". But we do have a secret basement trap door at our cottage, so all is not lost! Thanks for another great explore, Kim!

Fab Castling wee lassie. Amazing to think how they could build such mega structures and the effort it would take to do so! It would be a mammoth task nowadays, even with all of today’s technology and heavy machinery. Atb, Dazza.

Lovely video. When you said that bit about 19 children, I thought about my neighbor when I lived in New York...they had 15 children and I could never remember the kids' names. It still is just mind boggling to me that people achieved these structures without any large equipment - just lots of man power. Amazing. Thanks again Kim.

Nice vlog Kim. Remind me of the other week when we had a catch up. Lunch at a stone circle then exploring that old building. Which in my opinion was one of the best I've seen in ages the way nature is reclaiming it is amazing .. But I had to laugh. You found that stone circle, we'll have to try again to find that one we were looking for... 😂 😂 Catch up soon xx

My ancestors were the Irvines of Drum.. They left Scotland and went to Ireland to Irvine Castle. You did such a wonderful job today, I would love to see what you could do with those two sites. In my ancestry, I believe it's the Irvines who go back to Mael Collum, or King Malcolm III. He was killed by his cousin MacBeth. While Shakespere's version is not correct historically, this where he got his material for his play MacBeth. So I would also love to see you do Holy Rood house and any thing else having to do with that history. I hope to do my own exploring some day but until then I have to make do with the internet. Thank you, Katherine

Yes...there is hundreds of castles here! I don't think I've even been to a quarter of them yet but at least there us plenty of choice. I hope you manage to do a tour sometime - some areas have more than others so if you chose somewhere with many, you'll be able to pack more into your trip :)

You see so many Scottish castles with walls intact and then you come across one that housed 19 children at once and suddenly it's all too clear why the walls are gone

Hello, can you please tell me what guide book you are using in this video?
@kimgrantphotography

I didn't use a guide book for this - I received all information from visiting the locations themselves and reading the information boards. I was a historic Scotland member this year so found all the locations through them and tried to visit as many as possible. Hope this helps :)

It would have been in the olden days. I have no idea how people would have gotten into it though as there was no stair access etc. I guess that's one reason it was a secret though haha
