Your the first singing teacher that actually makes any sense. Thank You. I have a lower register. Am exploring ways to make it come alive. It's hard when you can't keep up with the others, but I also know I can go where few others can go, just need to neatly package it up with a new angle, but also with music I like.

Singing in different languages certainly changes you a bit. German, for example, makes me focus on trying to pronounce everything clearly and stress less about technique. Whereas in Italian it's all "breathing. legato. focusssss" :D

I honestly have done so much mimicking that it seems that my voice has gotten lost in the mix, and I don't know, but I think there should be a part deux in which actually practicing the unique voice without listening to the other artists is in the lesson.

I just hate the sound of my voice, and I can't belt as well as I'd like to. I love rock music, and a lot of rock singers belt and shout. I'm a soprano, and I don't think my voice has that rock sound, you know? When I speak my voice is low and kind of raspy at times, too. (I'm 17, btw.)

This was really interesting and informative. I've always had a lower voice for a girl, even when I was little (my aunt said I had a smoker's voice LOL). I sort of developed a complex about it, and in recent years it hit me that I had literally started intentionally making my voice higher when I spoke, so my natural voice is actually a bit lower than the voice I use to speak day-to-day. It sort of varies based on how comfortable I am around someone, I guess? I'm trying to embrace my lower voice now though!

in my short musical journey , i have found singing in rhythm is very , very important , I taken lessons from several voice and guitar instructors ..none of them stressed , the importance of playing or singing in a rhythmic time signature , I found practice rhythm . improve that and you will sound so much better and have more fun , most songs are the basic 4/4 timing ..if your off tempo does not matter how great your voice is you won't sound right . get on time makes you sound a lot better .... practice 1, 2 3, 4 , 1,2,3,4 and make variations of it google , practice rhythm there lot of way to skin that cow ...... great teaching Madeleine I like your video,s

I loved this video! As you mentioned about modeling other artists, it's important to try other singers sounds in order to know what kind of singing technique you prefer. But somehow, I find it challenging to find inspiration from female artists for my low singing voice.. Have someone asked this before or is it just me? :3 Thanks for sharing your lesson! :)
@MadeleineHarveyVoice9 жыл бұрын
Charles Linnell HI There!! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! I think it's important to surround yourself with really great music! Especially when you're exploring your own authenticity. I find that having exposure to many different artists will only add to the complexity of what you can do. I oftentimes hear from female singers that it's difficult to find models for lower voices. But it all depends on where you look. Unfortunately, there are not alot to choose from in current mainstream music. BUT there are LOTS of really amazing women who own their lower voices in music. (I'm not sure what your genre of choice is, or your vocal classification.) But here are some of my favorite earthy female singers. Toni Braxton, Keisha Cole, Etta James, Diana Krall,Eva Cassidy, Amy Whinehouse,Adel, Tina Turner, Annie Lennox,Fiona Apple,Tracy Chapman, Nina Simone,Kd Lang, Bonnie Rait,Brandi Carlile, Doria Roberts, Talullah Bankhead. I know I'm still forgetting some, but I hope this little list will get some inspiration going for you. Have fun!!

+Madeleine Harvey Love your channel! I struggle with that too! I feel very out of place singing cos my voice is very dark and deep. I feel it's unexpected like my voice doesn't match my face. It makes me afraid to perform to others cos I'm expecting the first response to be bafflement and bemusement. It's sort of a weird problem. I can sing along to male singers way more easily than female singers. I've always wondered if that means I'm doing something wrong but my voice just feels way more comfortable in the deep end. Can you please do a video for deep female singers! Thank you for your videos.

As I think back, I have always naturally gravitated towards challenging songs. I believe this helped me to become a better singer. There was requisite range and power you just had to muster up to do the songs justice. You had to put yourself and your voice in a place to sing them.
@MadeleineHarveyVoice9 жыл бұрын
VIDEOHEREBOB Sure! Isn't that the amazing experience of music? Whatever the music invokes within is what needs to be expressed. Some people like music that takes them to a calm place, and their voices reflect that. I've always enjoyed singing songs that I can sink my teeth into. Songs that will bring me right to the edge of what I think I am capable of, both emotionally and vocally and then catapult me right over that edge into a whole new place of self discovery. Yummy!

Is it complex to learn singing? Most of my problems now is my larynx which is active when singing because I usually for years talk from there (throat) and am a beginner head voice singer who just entered into chest voice singing so I’m having trouble controlling where the air flows. I also noticed when I would sing and record it my voice sounded terrible and panicked. I cried because I thought my music life was a waste and I was laughed at for thinking I was good when I wasn’t. It’s only been a few months since some singing and I can say I have improved but it feels like it’s gonna take forever.

It's ok. We are all works in progress. I would say, get as comfortable as you can with the feeling of openness. Make it a point to practice this feeling of openness as often as you can. The voice is totally controlled by the nervous system. This means that if there is ANY habitual tensions in our body, it is going to impact the voice and how it feels. Don't underestimate the awesome power of relaxation. Be curious with your minds eye too..focusing in on certain places such as your throat, the root of your tongue, your belly, your chest...etc. Sigh out some easy sound while you pick a part of your body such as your throat to relax. As you relax and you sigh out the sound, notice how the more you relax, the more free the sound. This relaxing business is probably one of the hardest things to do with signing, because is requires that we pay attention to our body and it's sensations. But it is the foundation for which your entire voice rests. I hope this helps! Happy Singing!

+amirul yunus That's totally ok! Every singer goes through this...(I have many many many times.) The trick is to not get so wrapped up in the "sound." That may seem counterintuitive, but remember, your voice is supposed to reveal how you feel. Try to pivot your focus away from the sound into the quality of the physical or emotional experience. When you practice this enough, you will feel amazing when you sing, and you won't be so concerned with what others may think..(That goes for yourself as well.) check out this video of mine about confidence.. I hope this helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYfNfalsjtpqa6c Good luck on your upcoming competition!
