Though I don't disagree with your sentiment, you don't understand what "standing watch" means. I'm a Navy vet. Standing watch in the military simply means doing your job. For example, it if you're an air traffic controller, then performing those duties is "standing watch." If you're a Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator, then standing watch would be performing those duties. Standing watch doesn't mean just aimlessly walking around base. If she performed well "standing watch" or "during watch," that just means that she was good, punctual, reliable and dependable at performing her job, whatever that job may have been.

I keep seeing this. I get what you're saying in this context, but I can't agree with the statement. I have three boys. They've refused to eat dinner because they didn't like it and tried to sneak something they do like later that night. We've grounded them for sneaking out food in that case. Obviously, nothing similar to that situation, but the point remains, if I told a friend my son was stealing food, I'd mean he was skipping his healthy dinner to eat junk from the pantry without our permission.

I didn't know they did this. Very smart move. That takes some serious resources, though. I can't imagine how much an investigation like this costs. From the canvasing, to the interrogations, examining phone records, numerous lab tests, missing persons searches, combing through trash, and locating and identifying remains using specialty equipment and expensive to train animals, it has to easily cost several million dollars if not tens of millions. EDIT: Apparently the University of Iowa has estimated the cost of murder at $17.25M. However, that's the cost "to society" and includes more than just the cost of bringing the offender to justice.

IMO at the end of the day whether her parents are bad people or not, Brianna was the one who made the decision to neglect and STARVE her child for a prolonged period of time, not them. It is also very probable that Brianna wasn't that close with her parents at all since she was raised by her grandmother and they weren't involved in her life enough to voluntarily check up on their granddaughter in two YEARS. It seems like Brianna's parents weren't emotionally-close with her, which would explain why they didn't give her the benefit of the doubt and immediately accused her of lying. Whether she ever talks or not, she will always have that inner dialogue on a reel in her brain. She had to have been mentally ill in some serious ways. Who just leaves feces in their room and closet? Did she do that to hide the smell or decomposition? Was she just so mentally disturbed that she was somehow into living with feces and trash or was her water shut off? Who knows. She has all the time of her life to remember that sweet little child of God whom she starved to death and neglected severely. And all for what? There was no man in her life saying he didn’t want children or any motive. I just don’t get it. She could have given her to her mom. After all her mom’s mom raised her. This is her “come to Jesus moment” she should be grateful because many who have perished never received medical attention allowing a second chance. Lord have mercy. Now she has life in prison, where we (taxpayers) are providing her with all the basic necessities of life that she denied her daughter. Not only that, we are providing it FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. Yet there are veterans and children who are stuck living on the street. Ones who DIDN'T murder anyone. This murderer is getting a better life than them. She has her freedom restricted, has to live by prison hours, but how bad is that? What is she paying back to society? She took a young mind that could have just been another cog in the machine or could have been the next Einstein or anything in between out of this world. What is she doing to pay back that debt? Is she working a 9-5 with no pay, just the basic stuff from prison? No, she gets exercise time, outside time, time to read, time to learn a new language, etc, etc. Where is the justice? Not saying she should have died, but why isn't she being made to help society in some way? To do more than live and find enjoyment in her captivity? Yes, I do say "enjoyment", why? She lost her freedom, but what else did she "lose"? She never has to pay taxes, never has to pay bills, worry about where her next meal will come from, worry about losing her living accommodations, doesn't have to do any meaningful work for the rest of her life... Look, I'm sure prison is worse than I am making it out to be, but it still doesn't sound like justice.

As a parent or human, I don’t understand why her father didn’t call the police to do a wellness check on his own daughter. His excuse for not following up after seeing his daughter emaciated was that Brianna changed her number a lot and moved. She was obviously raised by her Grandparents for a reason yet no one really got in Brianna’s face about this little girl’s well being who they never seen or heard about and was often seen wandering around alone. Just really heart breaking that people didn’t care enough about this little girl’s well being to do more while she was still alive. Sad for the loss of her life and probably feeling alone and uncared for. No child deserves that and it’s not until after she died all this effort was put in to find her. What’s crazy is the military has their own Uniform Code of Military Justice. Which means even if she is sentenced in civilian courts she most likely will be sentenced in the Military Court also. Therefore her sentence should be at the very least exactly the maximum amount the law allows for sentencing of the crimes committed.

I work at an animal shelter. The sweetest dog we have right now is a young pitbull that we took from his abusive owner. Its like people and animals that suffer, don't like to make others suffer. They just wanna be happy.
Mother is God in the eyes of a child, as the Crow said. She was a cruel and harsh "God" who metted out torture. Absolutely disgusting.

My daughter always goes in the pantry and grabs snacks. She knows it's her house, and always asks if she can have something.

I'm happy she was saved. Her trying to take the easy way out was NOT an option for what she did to that poor little girl

This happened in my city. This girl killed her beautiful child, had everyone out there looking for her baby, knowing she killed her and dumped her in Alabama. She’s serving a life sentence at Lowell in Ocala. I think she spread all the snack bags around, to make it look like she didn’t starve that baby to death. SMH Pure evil.
