Beautiful house. If I could get a "yes" from my husband I would buy it. You don't find homes like this in California. I had to laugh when you said " at least there is no wisteria" because I was thinking the exact same thing 😂. Great video Robert 👍.

That was a wonderful tour! You have a great eye for detail. Nothing says a marvelous old house like original wood floors that creak...and it is the sound of "home." I am all for putting a porch swing up. The property is just beautiful, like a Geogia dream. Just 700 or so to go, for 100K!!

I love the tall ceilings and the wood floors but me personally I would not have changed the original inside of it. I love how they were made back in the day 🙂 especially the breeze way that went straight down the middle of the house. ❤️ You could open the front and back doors to see either yard. I wonder if houses could be built that way again 🤔

I hope whomever buys it retains what's left of the original house. Needs lots of period restoration, including that cool front door with the bell. I wonder if the glass is still in the transom areas too. Neat place!!
@ink56652 жыл бұрын
We actually just closed on it 1/13! The front door is our first project outside of general maintenance - it needs a new pane of glass in the center anyway - the transom glass is not there still above the front door sadly - but our community glass workshop is going to work with us to do a period appropriate stained glass! There's a lot else to work on of course😂

One place I lived at that was built around 1920 was lath and plaster walls, and for insulation was Rice Hulls, cheap and easy to get here in northern California. The apartments were actually former guest quarters for the performers at the Senator Theater, each one self contained kitchen and bath. I installed an overhead loft as my bed area since ceilings were 16 feet high. Access to theater, central corridor like at a hotel to all apts. Overlooked downtown Chico. Really enjoyed living there even if it was "haunted". 😅

This reminds me of my house I owned for 18 years. Breeze way front to back with 3 bedrooms/1bath on left and living room/formal dining room/kitchen/canning room on right with plaster walls, beadboard ceilings, hardwood floors, three fireplaces, full attic, weighted windows and true 2x10/2x4 joist. I miss that home. But would not give that much for it because it needs lots of work.

I find the layout of that house to be totally strange, and confusing too. I'm totally not familiar with houses like that one. My grandfather's farm house, which we always thought was built around 1900, was a standard side-hall, front gable, two story house. But my grandparents moved out in 1988, and when the farm was sold, the buyer only wanted it for the land, so the house and all the outbuildings were all demolished. It was so sad.

I hate to be a downer, but whoever buys this old house will have to put a good deal of money into it, as it needs several things to bring back to life. If I had the bucks, it would be fun to restore it. It has been added to so much, I got lost during the tour. Thanks for sharing Robert! I always enjoy your videos.

This home is still alive and breathing. You could feel the people that once lived there from long ago and even today their walking up and down inside the home. Thanks Robert for the tour, I didn't hear price nor how one could reach anyone about the home. I follow this fellow here on KZbin who is restoring an 1890 2nd Empire mansard. He is so passionate about his work and the history that is behind the house. He wants to restore it back to it's original beauty, which has included massive amounts of paint stripping. He is currently rewiring, and that is taking lots of work. He is out of STL, MO.
@shellydehart82172 жыл бұрын
That was a cool house but unfortunately it’s a shame the way they chopped it up n adding that one wall, dropping the ceilings that the transit windows are covered. That just breaks my heart to see them do that. Can say it’s great seeing those beautiful wooden floors. That one room that they added a wall to. The wood as walls look like 70ty panels n someone decided to paint them. If I could I’d buy it n put back to all the original that I could. The property is beautiful. I would make me a great flower garden on it. Thanks to Hank for letting Robert show it to us n thank you Robert for sharing. ♥️♥️😊👍👍

The house is classic Greek Revival style which was popular 1840s through 1870s so the 1903 date is more likely the date of an addition or major alterations to the original house. The front door is Victorian style so an early "modernization" also prior to 1903. Too bad it's had so many "modern " improvements over the years.
@jamiecampbell30682 жыл бұрын
Neat part of those porch windows .. my uncle's house, in Savannah, originally had floor to ceilings .. swinging glass doors. That were very narrow. Similar window replacement as this house. Cool part was, the original doors, minus half its glass survived. Otherwise we would have had not a clue.

I love the older homes. They have a lot of character too. I don't believe there is insulation in the outside walls. Some WD40 will fix that front door bell right up. ;)
@DeepSouthTechie2 жыл бұрын
These old homes not having insulation is the main reason why we still get to enjoy them today. Most modern homes can collect moisture in the walls from condensation that forms from heating and cooling, this moisture over time rots the wood and can even develop into damaging mold in the walls. By being drafty and without a barrier that can trap moisture they quickly dry out and this helps to preserve the wood for generations.

I thought about something when you entered the kitchen saying this was a new add on was, back in the day the kitchen was not in the house as they are today. The kitchen was separate away from the main house because of heat and possibly a fire. Not sure this is the case of this house but my thought on it.

At 2:35, beside the fridge, that wooden cabinet is called a pie cabinet. It would be period correct for that house. Probably not original to the house but still period correct. Nice place but I noted close neighbors. I'd prefer more acreage like you and Aaron have.

Robert, the one room had the real wood paneling that they painted over. Not the faux stuff. It was around in the 1970's but of course was more expensive so most people went for the cheaper crap. My mom had that put into her house. Now her house was one of those brick houses circa 1965, lol! she bought it in the late 1970's and added that to her den on one wall. Anyway, that is good quality paneling and worth keeping, it is coming up on being 50 years old, so vintage too. Although it does not have the charm of the beadboard we saw in the older part of the house had in some of the rooms, it is still nice. That house is such a mix match for sure the way they added it on, they did not try to match the original part of the house, but I wish both eras could be preserved somehow if it could be made to look more cohesive. Right now it just looks weird.

this house is a mish mash, typical of the eighties when they chose to paint all the old woodwork and 'modernize' it. that will be a nightmare or a dream to fix up. who the heck put that little dog in a cage in a closet? the house gives me the creeps for some reason. imho!
