In this video, I'm exploring a magnificent abandoned mansion with so many things still left inside. It's a mystery of who owns the home and why it was left behind.

Just to give you an update on this beautiful old home. I bought this home in December of 2021. She will be lovingly restored beginning with a new roof. Replacing rotted wood here and there and lots of scraping and painting and she will a queen once more. I would like to add that was not the dinning room that was the butlers pantry. The dinning room is the room with the window seat. So glad to see people still care about and love these grand old homes!

I smiled as I always know the correct layouts. I am very familiar as you are with the purpose for each room...nook and cranny. I am a history buff and lover of old architecture. At 74 I remember well my youth and Being in many of the old homes when they were still lived in as a guest and I myself grew up in a fine old home. I restored an old Victorian home after I married and raised my family at that location. AFTER my husband died and my family was all married , I was alone. It was not practical to stay in a huge home Any longer. Young people, families, belong in huge homes. But I know that increased property taxes and utility bills , cost of insurance and upkeep has become prohibitive. The cost of construction material Is outlandish. It costs a fortune to Romanticize. Also , the skilled tradesmen are not plentiful any longer. It is easy to find dry wall People , but plasterers are far and few between. I did most of my own restoration and it is back breaking work.

You hit the nail on the head, this is exactly what is happening...one hand washes the other, sadly. They make these historic homes incredibly difficult to renovate for the avgerage (wealthy) person, b/c every single thing you do will have to get vetted and approved though a local historic council. These councils can hold up a build years and years and years...the average even quite wealthy person, doesn’t have the time or money for that kind of nonsense ...so they sit. Often families who inherit these homes do not want to Live there and are waiting for a huge pay put for a developer to want it for the land. Sadly what most people don’t understand is that there is n huge pay day coming, because of what you just explained. Developers buy low, sell high, that’s their business model. This house definitely has someone coming thru it, there are no major signs of dust , even just th chandeliers would be covered in cobwebs, nothing...as someone else pointed out the tile around the fireplaces is literally shiny...the grass around the property is being cut, otherwise it’d be 6 feet tall. Someone is doing some very minimal care it’s would seem, unless the ghost are having cleaning parties 😲👻

@@L.sabore My impression is it is so 'not watched' that vagrants or squatters once stayed in that lower floor bedroom, evidenced by the quilt on the chair for sleeping, the mussed bed, the cheap empty miniature liquor bottles in top drawer of chest. A normal person living in the house would have had a large bottle of booze along with a variety of others, kept in a closet or china cabinet. I'd imagine, maybe, a homeless couple just coming in at night to crash and then go outside panhandling for a burger and the booze during the day. They didn't live there but were left alone enough to sleep there. Granted I haven't even seen it all the way through but the doors are open for anybody to walk in, yet abandoned to the elements. Edit: just heard my man mention squatters. He had the same idea. The mail just piles up. No point sinking a ton of money into fixing it. It would have minimal property value due to the bad state of the surrounding area the guy said was one of the highest crime areas in town. A gem in the midst of squalor & criminals. One of the saddest abandoned places I've seen for the fact that it has been given up on and pretty recently, too. So, somebody invested a great deal of money in updating appliances, paint, new fireplace tiles, drapes & stuff but just dropped everything & moved out. But very, VERY low-end, cheap horrible bathroom cabinets & stuff. Just gross. Also, cheap ceiling lighting. Even the floral painting over fireplace in blue bedroom was a cheap generic pieces of crap. Sorry, the house interior is OVT in some respects, like window treatment & fireplaces, but cheap, tacky modern improvements in other parts. Wall to wall carpeting EVERYWHERE was also the epitome of tackiness & not something an affluent homeowner or savvy designer would have done, despite being common at one time. Just not for a house like that. Wood floors would have been shown w/ area carpets. Maybe someone's failed B&B dreams.

This house needs to be saved now. Someone buy it, throw a roof on it and work on the interior little by little. But if it’s just going to be left to rot then someone should be allowed to go in and strip all of the good stuff. That stained glass, the mantles and woodwork, the moldings. I hate seeing stuff like this go to waste because the people that own it either don’t care or just want the property for the land. WASTE!!

Everything from the absolutely stunning stain glass window, woodwork and flooring are beyond beautiful! And also the antique furniture is amazing! It must not have been abandoned that long ago? Just going by the stainless steel appliances. What’s the history on this house? Why do people think it’s haunted? The narrow walk through side room next to the kitchen is a butler's panty and that wasn't the dining room, sugar, it was a breakfast room. The bathroom next to the downstairs bedroom that had the stove and fridge may have been a sort of abbreviated Mother-in-law suite for an elderly or disabled person.as ground floor bedrooms were not that common for mansions like this in that area during the period when this was finished. Also stained glass windows were very common in mansions in the south from 1860 right up till 1930s, the style and content of the picture or mosaic can almost tell you the decade in which it was installed..

What you did was make your own CONDESCENDING assumption based upon some kind of current day's smugly superior entitlement to ascribe interpretations of other's motives onto them based on very little information which in this case was one WORD. I used the word "sugar in order to soften the connotation of what I was saying as NOT being a critic or correction, but more of an effort to give information from someone who being from that area understands that topic first hand. It is considered good manners to put someone at their ease before pointing out a lack of understanding or knowledge about something. However you're so quick to apply your woke mindset to me that courtesy is apparently lost on you as well as your astounding lack of awareness of your own hypocrisy in sarcastically calling me an "expert." Then again I suspect you gave that preamble simply as a springboard to impress others with a virtue signaling lecture on the use of a word whose context you did not understand in the slightest. Yet by appointing yourself as the thought and word police you do not impress me in the least as someone so caring of other's feelings; it's more about trying to impose what you consider are are your higher morall values on everyone else,

Yip...and to imagine there used to be hundreds of them across the south before the great economic invasion.

The storage off the kitchen is called a butler pantry. Probably opens into the dining area. Many fine homes have these.

What a beautiful mansion. A lot of craftsmanship went into the woodwork and tile. So sad it's been abandoned.

We kept buying bigger homes until we decided to retire then we went smaller. I is gorgeous home but I love my small one where every thing is on one floor as I am in a wheelchair now. Thank you for sharing this home from the past!

I'll never understand a piece of history like this being abandoned. And even stranger yet, why no one doesn't buy up these beautiful old homes to restore them to their former glory. Seeing the antique furniture and clothing left behind shows they had more money than sense. If it were financially possible l'd gladly restore this beautiful mansion.

What a beautiful home!!! The fire places are gorgeous. The grand staircase with the stain glass window is absolutely stunning. I’m very surprised that vandals haven’t damaged it. I hope it gets restored.

Doesn’t The city or county have a historical society? This would be an awesome makeover in that style!

Thank you for your videos. Be careful & always watch where you're stepping on. One more thing, it would be nice if you can give us more information about these abandoned homes, i.e. who were the original owners, what happened to them, why is the house left abandoned, etc...a little more history, you know.
