Exploring a Clear Canyon Creek in North Alabama

Episode 1/3 in my Alabama travel series takes me to the Warrior and Cahaba River watersheds in search of Warrior and Cahaba Bass. I am trying to complete the Redeye Bass Slam in 3 days. I also try fly fishing for these beautiful redeye bass species!

@@FIREbirdaustin the Chattahoochee, couldn't weed through the rainbow trout and ended up getting rained out on day 2.

I figured you'd either say Chattahoochee or Altamaha. It took me over 3 years to finally catch a pure Chattahoochee bass. There's been so much habitat loss, they're almost gone. I hope you get one, they are very beautiful fish!

I have learned a lot about fish through your videos. To me, fish included bass, bream, crappie and catfish! To hear you name all the different fish, especially the types of bass amazes me that you know all about all of them! I know it is your passion and you are great at it and a great videographer! ❤️

I use hellgrammites in Cincinnati Ohio and I catch 3 or 4 lb channel cats. They love them

Wow I’ve yet to have that happen! My buddy catches channel cats on jerkbaits sometimes but they seem to avoid my lures lol

@@FIREbirdaustin hook through the belly, a float with some line. Not to much or they will snag you on some rocks. Throw up stream and let float down. Catfish,bass, bluegill love them

Oh awesome! I typically target bass which is why I throw the artificial hellgrammites. I may try that though

You should go down to Florida panhandle and add a Choctaw bass to the list. It's another closely related redeye bass.

@@FIREbirdaustin good luck! I am trying for one right now. Trying a creek in Escambia county today that dumps into Perdido and heading to Santa Rosa Florida later this week for some drainages of east river and yellow river.

I’ll have to research that area a little better so I’ll know where you’re talking about. Aren’t Choctaw bass more like a Alabama spotted bass? I’m not sure exactly how to target them yet

@@FIREbirdaustin yes, it's a black bass that is close in appearance to a spotted bass. It has one less fin spine on it's dorsal and anal fins. But I misspoke in the original post. They are a black bass, not a red eye.

Redeyes are still black bass with 7 different Redeye species. I’m just trying to figure out what Choctaw are most related to so I know where to look and cast for them. If they’re more related to spotted bass, I’m casting closer to shoals
