Tutorial Genius,I just saw your video on a Transmission Flush, and I was impressed and I feel that I can trust your expertise! I am in a tough situation. I own a 1998 Toyota Camry LE 4-cylinder, with an automatic transmission that I got brand new in 1997. I have been the only owner of this car for 26 years and it has almost 136,000 miles on it. I have never done a transmission fluid nor a differential service on this car . Currently, the transmission is slipping. When I put the gear in drive, it sometimes reverses, and other times if it's in drive, the car does not move when I press the gas pedal, it could take a minute for the car to move. This happens a lot when the car has been parked for a long time, esp. early in the morning. I was going to do a drain and fill, but my mechanic recommends doing a flush . With the age and mileage, I hear so much negativity of doing so, esp. a flush, as I hear a drain and fill is safer. But my mechanic says to get between 7-8 quarts of ATF from Toyota. I got 10 quarts, along with a gasket and filter. I am still contemplating if I am going to do this service, but other sources tell me since the transmission is already going bad, that it does not hurt to try. Should I do the flush?? And does the differential get serviced during a flush, too?

It depends what your fluid looks like! If it's dark brown, then doing a flush MAY cause problems (I don't mind getting into that explanation later if necessary). You can check with the dipstick. Is the filter serviceable? On mine it was not, but yes, definitely a drain and fill and filter at a minimum if possible!

@@TutorialGenius I appreciate the insight! And yes, the fluid color is dark brown with black remnants,And that is exactly why I do not want to do a flush, but my mechanic urges that is the best thing to do, as opposed to a drain and fill. It really is a big debacle for me! And I do believe the filter is serviceable, as it has been changed, but I am not sure. I have it handy just in case .

wondering where they get their gasoline or if they distill it themselves

They get it from the local gas station, then add a small upcharge!
