Thank you for sharing Shlomie , our entire family were from Afghanistan, I was born in Kabul, both my father and grandfather were Herati , Im sure this is the Shul where they both had their Bar Mitzvahs. I was fortunate to visit Kabul in July 1977 for my cousins Bar Mitzvah , we never made it to Herat sadly. Im sharing this video with all the family. Thanks and Hashem watch over you on all your travels .

thank you so much! rare beautiful visiuals of a forgoten place where my family came from! My Father ABRAHAM was born exactly there, in Herat. watching the narrow marekt streets and the ABANDONED synagogue where he must have visited in his childhood was for me - as someone who grew up on the knees of memories and legends - a very emotional experience. pitty the tour was short. i would like to see more of Herat. dont take it personally SHloime- better to turn the camera more to the views outside rather to concentrate on you : we saw you already, nice fellow,...and we would like to see what you SEE and we cant. waiting for more! yossi, vilnius

I remember my grandmother telling me about her visit(s) to Afghanistan. The worst thing she had to complain about was that there were a lot of hippies (tourists) there in the mountains smoking weed! I'm not sure when she was there, possibly the 60s. Such a tragedy that so many beautiful countries have been cursed by the insanity of humans. I would love to visit Afghanistan some day and have hope for better times ahead.
@norbertfranz27023 жыл бұрын
@@happydillpickle That's good to know. Afghanistan has been in the news for obvious other reasons for so long that I tend to forget it was once also a popular destination for Western hippies who just wanted to live a carefree life away from Western society and were known for their drug-taking. I heard that some of them wanted to go to India and decided to stay in Afghanistan. Some were also kicked out of India for their behavior.
@happydillpickle3 жыл бұрын
@@norbertfranz2702 Yes: it's such a tremendous tragedy. I'd prefer hippies on drugs any day over war and destruction.

Hello Mr. Shlomi, how I loved the synagogue. It is built in the traditional Afghan style and is unique in its kind. I think that any circular indicating that the graves are for Jews has been removed. You know that the country since the eighties has been ruled by Taliban gangs, and so that the cemetery is not exposed to vandalism , any religious relic is removed..
