Yeah, the Amiga did a lot better in the UK than the US, and given how well the C64 performed in the States, this kinda surprised and didn't surprise me at the same time.

I remember getting into Eric's art and Sabrina Online at the tail-end of the 1990's. At the time I had no clue what an Amiga was. I have Eric, Amy, and Sabrina to thank for getting me somewhat interested in it.

In case you didn't know, _Surf Ninjas_ was a movie before it was a game (I would've said the game was 'based on' the movie, but it... wasn't). Don't worry, though; the movie is _way_ radder than the game - in fact, it's probably the greatest film ever made. Did for the Game Gear what _The Wizard_ did for... the Power Glove.

I really like the animation in that Superfrog game. While it does at times appear to be ripping of some Looney Tunes gags, there's a lot of charm to it especially given it was done on the Amiga. The game's probably just average at best though, but that's one element I was impressed by even if it's nothing mind blowing. I actually thought of drawing Superfrog a while ago when I heard of that game, because I'm a fan of cartoon frogs and the like. The animation at least gives me some inspiration in that. Anyways, this was a great series of Amiga game reviews. Like the C64 and many other home computers of the time, the abundance of software and games developed provides tons of material for reviews. Definitely works better in a format like this though since unfortunately a lot of the content doesn't provide much worthwhile commentary alone. Would be great to see a second installment of these Amiga game reviews in the future. Keep up the great work, Stu.

Great review Stu, you summerized the Amiga pretty well, the system had a lot of gems and turds in its libary and its fascinating to see what devlopers did with the system. If you ever cover more games on the Amiga you should cover Jim Power (Hard but pretty good platformer), The James Pond series (The most generic and overrated Euro-Platformer series), and most Factor 5 games on the Amiga (Which were very impressive). Also a correction about the Turrican games and the console ports, The Turrican 1& 2 ports were handled by an outside studio and suck ass compared to the Amiga originals hell the Turrican 2 console ports were turned into Universal Solder to tie into a movie. After Factor 5 got the rights back to publish console games they released Mega Turrican on Genesis (later Backported to Amiga as Turrican 3 on Amiga), and Super Turrican 1 & 2 on SNES which are original games and sequels to the first 2 games. Also a better way to experiecne Turrican now is Turrican Flashback/Turrican Anthology on Switch and PS4 which released last year.

Oh heck! I thought the animation for SuperFrog looked familiar but I didn't know they were actually made by Eric himself xD I didn't actually discover Sabrina Online until like 5 years ago when I was looking through some old Amiga Format magazines and got all hooked. Then I was like. I wonder how long it ran for and looked it up online only to find out that the original black'n white strips had literally just wrapped up a few weeks ago and the creator had just started to do more traditional colored comics that continued the escapades. I spent a little chunk of that summer trading through the entire archived collection of Sabrina stripe. Good times. As for the Amiga itself, I didn't really grow up on it. I was all about consoles that actually had more than 1 button and didn't map jump to UP. Okay, a bit harsh but I still think it was a pretty cool piece of technology

You know, there is a game I think it would be cool if Stew review. Has anyone else heard of "The Guardian Legend?" It was a NES game that plays kinda like old style Zelda mixed with a space shooter. Never sold too well partially thanks to the box art in the US being mostly unrelated to the game (I thought it looked epic) and being released near the end of the NES' life cycle if I'm not mistaken. However, it has been considered by some to be one of the most underrated games of its time and I personally think that the soundtrack is the definition of old-school/NES gaming. Now it does live up to the term 'NES hard' and the password system is unnecessarily long, but the level up system and power ups were pretty good. The story surprisingly was one of the best parts for me. I won't spoil it, and it was nothing big, but it gave the game atmosphere and purpose in a way similar to Metroid.

Never heard of Lotus 2 but I need to get that for Genesis. It's CIB for only $15. The Amiga is still a mystery to me, as an American, besides the basics I know of it and the few ports we got over here like Shadow of the Beast which was on everything for some reason. But I'd enjoy a part 2. I know Dune that was ported to the Sega CD was an Amiga game as well as Sid Meier's Pirates! Gold. So there's definitely a lot more to explore. As for Turrican yeah that first game is straight up F-You hard! I tried it a few times and never got past the first stage. I skipped 2 entirely and just went straight to Mega Turrican for Genesis which has quite possibly the best Sega Genesis cover art ever made. And also my vote for best soundtrack for any Sega game, and easily top 5 16-bit soundtrack period.

Moon Stone was Great it was pretty much a Take it in Turns multiplayer version of Dark Souls if it was a single screen Beat Em Up. It was also super Violent for its time and was made pre Mortal Kombat. Comanys like Rockstar Games called DMA designs back then started on the Amiga with Titles like The Lemmings Series and the Battlefeild series devs made some od the best Pinball games in the 90s on it. Core design who ended up becoming huge thanks to Tomb Raider made alot on the Amiga most big game studios and teams that came from Europe alot worked on the Amiga.

The original Zool for the OCS/ECS machines (aka A500/A600/A2000/A3000) actually had cleaner backgrounds but this "enhanced" edition you played is what happens when companies need to release "remasters" on the cheap - the AGA (A1200/A4000) version was the result, just because they could use more colors now they put in those awful backgrounds that actually hurt the playability of the game...
