That first jumpscare felt like my heart jumping up to my throat. Definitely not prepared for it. The game seems to do a good job of guiding the player around through sound and visual clues without having to always resort to color coding common in some popular games of the horror genre. I really liked the subtle lighting of the candles and light bulbs in the distance. It truly goes well with the general eeriness of exploring an abandoned building and the unease that comes with a place that was once bustling with activity, now left empty.

A more subtle abandoned mental hospital film that I enjoy is Session 9. Slow burn and atmospheric, it’s about a construction team removing asbestos from an old facility. Definitely seems to be a movie people either enjoy or find boring depending on your tastes. But I really like it.

It's not an "abandoned institution" movie but The Blair Witch Project is definitely one of the coolest found footage movies ever. I would also highly recommend the Creep movies for anyone who are into media like this, and definitely The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

I just finished reading 'Episode 13' too! It was so good! I love all the formats it utilizes. I also super recommend 'The Last House on Needless Street and 'Hidden Pictures' (not the same found-footage-like genre, but still horror/suspense).

There's some clever storytelling here. Clearly Tim wasn't the first explorer to enter, but he was the first to leave. The living victims are intelligent, even if they can't speak verbally they're literate and creative. He's the first to leave because they weren't ready to be discovered yet. Somewhen between him and the previous visitor, they finally became ready to leave. And since they were ready to leave, to escape, they were then ready for for the horrors that made them to be discovered.
