EXPLORING an ABANDONED RESORT in CUBA // MY FIRST ABANDONED VIDEO (short)

In this video I filmed my first abandoned exploration while on vacation in Cuba. We were told about these locations from people we met at the resort we were staying at in Cayo Largo Cuba.
Seeing as we were foreigners and not knowing the full scope of where we were, I decided to keep this simple, safe and short. We did see some people roaming the area and some rooms that looked occupied so I didn't want to interfere with anyones private space.
It was a good experience and I hope to do more of this type of video.

I just come back from Cayo Santa Maria and there are a lot of abandonned hotels there. Memories Paraiso and Grand Muthu are partly abandoned. There are more but it was too hot to walk on the beach to visit them. These hotels have been build in 2011.

Technically it's not abandoned, it's on hiatus while Blue Diamond Resorts (Sunwing) refurbishes it. Here's the backstory ...the Villa Coral & Villa Soledad opened up in the early 1990's as European managed boutique resorts. March 2020 : All hotels in Cayo Largo were closed in mid-March for an indefinite period due to the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus. During that time, all the management companies, which were all European, vacated Cayo Largo June 2022 - Sunwing / Blue Diamond Resorts, secured exclusive operating rights to Cayo Largo and resumed Cayo Largo as a destination.. November 2022 - Sunwing / Blue Diamond opened up some of the resorts under new names (e.g. Sol Cayo Largo become the: Memories Cayo Largo). Essentially, the Cayo Largo resorts were vacant from March 2020 to November 2022. My understanding is that Sunwing/ Blue Diamond wants to renovate & repurpose the repurpose the Villa Coral & Villa Soledad under their "Royalton" brand...but we shall see.

Sunwing has recently taken over management of the entire island of Cayo Largo. They're running all the operational resorts, and will be either repairing or replacing the dilapidated ones. At least one of them is scheduled to be fully demolished and rebuilt as a new upscale "Royalton" facility. They also secured an exclusive international import license, which will eventually allow them to bypass the strained resources coming from the Cuban govt, and just import what they need directly from Canada.

Who told you that will never come back?? It will as long as turists pay. By the way, you open doors go in and out and you don't close them back ? The idea of urban exploring is to leave things as you found them.

Is this in Cayo Largo del Sur? I can't believe this is Cayo Largo. I worked there for 1 year in 1992. What a shame!
