I understand the desire to rescue a fine old building. I also understand that restoring one whose period interiors have vanished would allow you to install insulation, modern utilities, ducting etc, without having to destroy period finishes. BUT!! This looks like way too much. Just demolishing the hideous modern extensions would cost a fortune. My advice would be to find a smaller property that's similarly gutted but hasn't been engulfed in institutional extensions. Perhaps something like Dan's Chateau de Chaumont?
@Ragnar85042 ай бұрын
This! I think the only vague possibility of saving this place would be a business venture like Château du Theil, which was completely rebuilt to become a hotel and restaurant. Restoring it as a family home seems flat-out mental just because of the sheer size of it. Chaumont is enormous as a home (I once guesstimated about 500 m2 of living space, probably a bit less) but this looks to be much, much bigger.
