I agree with the statement of "kind of cool and kind of awful". The "beams" are high enough that they're not as noticeably fake, but they're also not in reasonable or logical placement, i.e. going into a chimney breast.

To be completely honest, the chateau does not exude joy. Not only because it was a marital home that was to be a joint project, but because it seems dark and gloomy with the present choices of colour. The moat is dreary as well because it needs a hug cleanout to enhance the property, not detract. I like you Phil and I have to agree with others, perhaps a whole new beginning will be the key to finding joy and a new kick in your step. *HUGE HUGS* 🥰

All their paneling is painted though, which makes it much easier to hide damage. Almost everything can be repaired or replaced, it's just a question of how much work and money it is. I decorated my entire place around one teapot. It is a ceramic teapot with a dark blue/green base glaze with dark blue, light blue, red and cream flowers with green foliage. I have vision trouble and need a lot of light so I have white walls and ceilings, cream furniture (leather) and carpet, a dark blue cloth giant tub chair and foot stool, dark blue velvet curtains and red throw cushions, some artwork with light blue in them and plants for the green. I also have wooden furniture. Find something that brings you joy and go with it - you won't regret it.

Follow your heart Phil, if it is pulling you to go in another direction the right place will find you…and you will know the instant you discover it! I totally understand that the twists in the road have left you without the same enthusiasm to keep going forward….that unexpected change of direction can alter our view drastically and sometimes it’s a wipe of the page and start anew that is the remedy. Before you do make your choice I would urge you to try clearing your mind and then take a walk around the grounds and then inside as though looking through they eyes of a potential buyer….see if you can picture what would grab a new owner to want this to become their castle. This will hopefully give you clarity on what to focus on in readiness for sale, it may also just bring back a spark of what about this place called out to you….who knows, but either way you will have a clearer direction forward hopefully! 😉🤞 Which ever direction you decide, you have faithful followers who will happily come along on your journey wishing you well and supporting you! 🫶

Get some timber and replaster the gym room there is plasterboard available with insulation included or just get insulation and regular plaster and paint it. It would be warmer and look better for you to use. Use your morning room as a dining room it's much brighter and the other as an office unless you do already. Though I would rather see you in a new home with new adventures and memories for you and Lightning and anyone else. Something easier to fix up I seem to remember little places you showed us a disused train building even that would be interesting or a farm or cottage. I have looked at a few in your area more finished modern homes but sure you would have a better grasp of or ask Ryan as he has showed us a few smaller properties before his recent one I am sure would work better. It would be fun if he could show you a few cottages or farms you would consider. You wouldn't be the first chateau owner to try something different and it usually works out well as it has for most of the ones I follow. Your happiness is the most important Phil and maybe enlist the help of friends in the field whom might have the time to help you do research.

As it would be the kitchen again in the future there is no point in doing that until you are ready to turn it into a kitchen again because of plumbing and wiring you would hide behind plasterboard
