The Green Line is a rapid transit line in the MARTA rail system. It operates between Bankhead and Edgewood / Candler Park stations, running exclusively inside the Atlanta city limits.
The Green Line is a stub of the originally planned North Line, which would have served points north beyond Bankhead such as Northside Drive in Brookwood Hills, serving the Perry Homes projects along the way. But the line was only ever built as far as Bankhead. It shares trackage with its counterpart, the Blue Line, between just west of Ashby and Edgewood / Candler Park. Green Line rush-hour trains start at Avondale and pass Decatur and East Lake without stopping before pulling onto a pocket track just east of Edgewood/Candler Park.
The Green Line runs above ground, at-grade and below ground in various portions of its route. It begins at the western terminus of Bankhead station, paralleling Proctor Creek through West Atlanta. (This is the only portion of the Green Line not to share trackage with any other route, albeit a short distance.) It is joined by the Blue Line before Ashby station. The Green Line enters downtown Atlanta, where it meets the Red and Gold Lines at Five Points station. It continues into East Atlanta, where the Green Line reaches its eastern terminus at Edgewood/Candler Park station, while the Blue Line continues on to Indian Creek station. Enjoy!

@@BL4CKKN1GHT Exactly! A couple of years back the residents in South Fulton voted for a sales tax increase where Marta promised to extend heavy rail into the area. But at the last minute, Marta decided to opt for bus service.

@@BabyBang17datruth I didn’t know there was heavy rail proposal. From what I’ve seen, the whole sales tax was for busses and light rail within the city. Either way it shows marta is inept and incompetent. And that’s on top of them taking funds from the taxes to put towards busses. But at least Atlanta city council is questioning marta about their actions. Someone from DC or the MTA needs to come down and run marta

These sound absolutely amazing with many elements of these cars found in other transit systems. Between old school MITRAC, the look of WMATA Rolling Stock and what appears to be the same door motors as the R-68 these are quite an experience yet oddly familiar. I must take a trip down there again before the new Stadler cars become commonplace.

@professorhineschoice
@professorhineschoice Жыл бұрын
@@gfujigo Actually they're specifically for the Proctor Creek Branch (Bankhead Station) as this was the only station in the system built for 2 car service (this is in the works to be changed to a 6 car length platform, to be able to run the new rail cars that will arrive in 2025). The rest of the system is designed for 8 car service but 6 is the length MARTA has ran in many recent years.

Building out the full potential of the current rail lines is a better first step. The recent proposal to add 4 new stations on the existing lines would be a real catalyst for development in the areas around them where there isn't much already. The greatest potential for that is around the proposed stations on the east and west lines.

Just curious as to when you visited Atlanta. My wife & I went to Atlanta in 2015 for a Clean Show and stayed at the Airport Motel 6. We rode the trains to sight-see. As usual, I photograph trains, etc. On the way in, I photoed through the door to the front and the "driver"(attendant) went ballistic that I wasn't allowed to do that. I also was confronted by a "guard" while taking photos of the beautiful facade in the main station that had been saved from a previous building saying I couldn't photograph in the station. On the same day, I saw a piece on the local news that had video of trains and passengers entering and leaving trains at that station where you could recognize them, and my photography did not. Go figure. There is NOTHING about MARTA that can not be had off-the-shelf if you can afford it and nothing is a security risk. The only thing that is not off-the-shelf is the software to operate the system.
