So happy that I stumbled across this video. I live down in Derby England, but I met and fell in love with a beautiful Ayrshire lassie around 20 years ago. It sadly didn't work out, but we're still very close and I still come up here regularly to visit her and my daughter. It's just another place on the long list of magnificent Victorian buildings which has been allowed to rot. There's one in my home town - an incredible, ornate warehouse built by the Great Northern Railway in the 19th century. I've watched it stand empty for 25 years, gradually deteriorating, falling apart, and being vandalised and covered in graffiti. Deep in my heart, I just know that this structure will eventually be bulldozed. And yes - I still feel the same way about her to this very day. My dream girl, she always was - and she always will be. Thanks for posting.

He even tried to get the staff to stay overnight especially the younger girls like me so I can only imagine what was going on. No way would i!! In a perfect world homeless people could use abandoned buildings without doing any damage inside. Unfortunately many of homeless people are alcohol/drug addicts. One person usually will not do any trouble, but few or more people could be problematic (using open fire to cook while being intoxicated, fights between people). From time to time you can hear about fire in an abandoned building, especially during winter when homeless people are getting off the streets and looking a place to stay. Fortunately there are homeles shelters which help them to survive winter, find a job, quit addiction etc. Great video guys

Back in 2004 some work colleagues were staying in it and the ceilings were collapsing back then, one was moved rooms twice due to parts of the ceiling collapsing in the room and then water running down the walls. The place stank of damp. It’s not had any significant repairs since then. Nobody who’s owned it has wanted to pay out for the restoration as repairs it needed. Now it’s just there rotting away, closing half the railway station and disrupting traffic. Think part of the roof was damaged in a fire, probably where all that water damage is.

I’ve previously worked with people who are homeless and have heard well meaning arguments for allowing the homeless community to stay in such buildings. However, it’s always a question of liability, if something tragic happens to someone staying who would be to blame? So to overcome this would need costly maintenance being carried out and some kind of management. It would cost less to invest in providing homelessness support services to help get people off the streets and living independently.

For re-use as housing for the homeless an old hotel would make better accommodation for people than an old office block. It would be good to have some sort of business running there as well to offer jobs and generate income. Of course the cost of conversion would be argued against this but if council or government took action quickly in these cases a building could be saved from scrappers and decay. Thank you so much for making this video. On Monday arsonists set fire to this wonderful building and now we wait to see what, if anything can be salvaged. This is amazing last look at a once magnificent hotel, thank you again.

Yes too many (abandoned) buildings around a lot of towns/Cities that can be used for homeless people to use. Even if for a care of address to get back on their feet.

Stay 5mins from here. No much change apart from the rot. How did you manage to get in? Great to see it cheers

I remember going into the big Function Room back in c.1998 on a Sunday evening. It was at a Pentecostal worship service with River Ministries.

I grew up and lived in Ayr many moons ago and drank in that hotel bar a few times - absolutely heartbreaking and criminal that’s it’s been left to rot away like this. People who are allowed to buy up property and then just leave it to go to wrack and ruin should be held accountable!

As a person from Ayr there is a 50/50 mix of people wanting to keep it and people wanting it razed. Looking at this video it more or less confirms that the Station Hotel is beyond saving.

No building is beyond saving. It's just a question of time and money. I've seen buildings in far worse condition than the station hotel be brought back into use.

Agreed, the funds are too high to save it however, unless major donations occur or a rich developer gets in on it.

What a pity that this once beautifull Hotel has been left to ruin. Very, very sad. 😪😪
