Exploring Bald Mountain Jeep Trail in Virginia

In this video, we get in some Wheelin' time on the beautiful Bald Mountain Jeep Trail in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests in Virginia. This trail was a ton of fun and included, rocks, mud, and soft sand. We may have even needed to pull out the Winch on this trail. This trail is rated Easy-Moderate, depending on which line you take. There was a by-pass for any obstacles that may provide a challenge for folks who are new and learning to wheel.

It's a good thing you had a winch, I'm very familiar with that trail, I know exactly where you were high centered, you could have been waiting there for a long damn time.

Great video! We just moved 4 miles down the road from coal rd and excited to get the wrangler up 162. Hiked up the first portion yesterday. Did any of the rock obstacles within the first mile or two give you any issue?

Awesome! No we didn't have any issues at all, no major obstacles. Only exception was when we got high centered after a wrong turn at the very end. Happy Wheelin!

It's really a pretty easy trail for any 4x4. The water holes are kinda deep at times. If you decide to ride up, let me know. I'd go along. The rhododendron should still be in full bloom, and it's really nice up top.

How narrow is this trail? Do you think a full size pickup could fit? I have a 03 Silverado

When we ran the trail it was plenty wide enough for a full size pickup to travel without pinstripes. Enjoy the trail!

About how long would you say it would take to complete this?

Around 3 hours or so, depending on wet it is.

How would this trail be for a full size truck with 4x4?

It will be able to make it, this is a relatively simple trail and not too narrow. Depending on the time of the year, you may get some minor "pinstripes" if it's not cut back well, but you should be good to go! Enjoy the trail!

I have a f250 tremor ..would love to do this trail. Any fb group that you can recommend to link up? Looks doable except the end where you high centered

There were a couple spots where you may get some "pin stripes", but more than doable. We're not from the area, so sorry no FB groups to recommend.

Got a question about the mud holes/lakes I have read about on this trail. Can you go around them. I read 1 or 2 can be 30” deep

It was raining while we were there, but we did not encounter any that were more 20-25" deep, but I'm sure that can change with the amount of rain. Most had a bypass, but not all of them. Hope this helps.

Eh, to each his own. Not every trail needs to be white knuckle exhilarating! We enjoyed getting to just explore the outdoors in a new place!
