The tree really SHOULD be in Kalimdor somewhere, narratively it just fits the Night Elves original identity as "Guardians of Kalimdor" if it's not halfway across the world. Like it's nice having these NPC's labeled as visitors from x y z zones, and having the portals. But just from an actual story perspective, since WoW Capitals are 'the main base' of a group, it would just feel way more sensible for it to be near the actual homeland of the NEs, because their culture was defined by service to those lands.

Well I'm not sure where this is by location, but it WOULD make sense to have your capital in a place where your people live, that's the point of a capital. I mean sure, Japanese emperors for instance placed and replaced capitals based on their court wherever they liked, but cities are a place of industry, learning, commerce and nost just a nice place. Even Darnassus had villages supporting it (assumedly) and it was connected to Darkshore via sailing.

Well lore wise the NE were kinda split in a diaspora after the burning. Some went as refugees to SW, I think some went to Hyjal and lived under that tree for a while, and others still spread out to wherever they had friends or kept fighting in whatever current conflict there was. There will probably still be many who stay at Hyjal and protect Darkshore, Ashenvale, and the other ancestral NE lands, but the new home is to give those who want it a new start, and for all NEs to have somewhere guaranteed safe and welcoming whenever they need it

@@Marqrk Good answer. They absolutely were fractured after the Fourth War. Not all Night Elves are warriors, and many would wish to be away from the places where such horrors happened. Amirdrassil is so, so safe. It's wonderful for them to be able to feel safe again. As for Kalimdor the night elves are still there too.

I think I recall seeing a guard tower around the city that was filled specifically with "outcast" factions of night elves (demon hunters, death knights, and dark rangers). It's nice to see them getting representation within the city, and also in the implication that it's kind of awkward for all of them to be there (but also that they take some comfort out of each other *also* being outcasts).

Apparently the city is still being built. Thaelin, a Dark Iron, mentions that work will need to be done to have a full city around the base of the tree and in its roots, and that he has some ideas.

I think these buildings are actually from legion, in Val'sharah but i could be wrong. A lot of the buildings near the nightmare raid were destroyed or were half under a hill. I'mma check later.

when you go to Thas'talah you can find the big house with the spiral around the tree. The base house is all over Val'sharah (including two in Lorlathil) both can be found as ruined versions in front of the EN raid. I couldnt find the sentinel buildings, the tower, big gazeebo or the statement piece moonwell though, those seems to be completely new

Which I honestly think they should, the current Horde-Alliance scenario is pretty damn dull, and not a good introduction to your class or race fantasy for a new player. If you mean just their main city then yeah I agree. Night elves still live in Northern Kalimdor though. Darkshore, Ashenvale, Winterspring, Hyjal, Moonglade. Feralas still holds the Sentinels main stronghold. The upside to the Dragon Isles location is that if military conflict were to arise Amirdrassil is basically a safe haven. Not only will it have elves defending it, but the dragon flights themselves. IT's also powered by some level of magic that not even we understand yet, being tied to the World Soul that just restored the dragon's powers. It's a powerful place. I hope for an "old world" revamp someday where we will get to revisit places like Kalimdor and EK.

The starting area for gnomes takes place during the whole attempt to retake the city now, and the plot hasn't moved beyond that.

It had a unique idea of a terraced city (wasn't depicted well in-game tbf, 2004 limitations, but Dazar'alor shows they 100% can do terraces now) and had a lot more interesting stuff going on in it. So I'm confused. Is this located *in* the Dream, or like on an island off the coast of the Dragon Isles? If the first, that's... kind of dumb from a gameplay and balancing territory perspective. Congratulations night elf players, you lost your capital city, got kicked out of Kalimdor and also out of Stormwind and now you have your own village, I mean "capital city" enjoy the same 5 buildings over and over again and living under a tree like one of the homeless from california, don't expect more than this either, they will never add the cool bear bank, or the old highborne buildings that Darnassus had, nor the temple or any of the cool features the old capital had. And before the typical blizz bootlicker comes by saying "things take time" all these buildings are pre-made and blizz just puts them into the world, the only time consuming thing is adding furniture and furnishings inside to them, putting buildings down can be done in an hour more or less and furnishings take a couple more hours.

It's very pretty. But after Val'sharah, Ardenweald and now the new Emerald Dream I am completely burnt out with the Night Elf aesthetic. Lets try something new please like a Void zone (not void corrupted zone) or a Naaru zone. Even Mists of Pandaria had all new types of zones and felt amazing. Everything in this new Night Elf capital we've seen for 2+ expansions now. ENOUGH WITH THE NIGHT ELF SHIT! WE GET IT SYLVANAS DID HER THING BUT THAT WAS 3 EXPANSIONS AGO. It would have been better to retcon their original city from being destroyed. Not like they care about lore anyway. Everything about this area sucks. Give back the tree buildings, the booming triumphant music. Elunes temple etc. This place is so damn bland.
